It is a huge hole in one of the world's most famous gardens - but nobody knows what it is for. Workmen have torn up an enormous section of the lawn in front of the White House for a mysterious, top secret project. Official explanations have ranged from an update of the air conditioning system to something 'security' related. But that has not stopped speculation that the President is installing something else entirely - from a swimming pool to a spa.

Following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, Vice President Dick Cheney disappeared and was whisked off to a "secure, undisclosed location" to protect his safety. But Cheney never confirmed where exactly he hunkered down. That is, until now. Cheney confirms in his new memoir, "In My Time," that some of the speculation was correct--one of his "undisclosed locations" was his residence in Northwest Washington, D.C., the Washington Post reports. Which, in turn, means Joe Biden was right. Vice President Biden told the world in 2009 that he discovered the bunker beneath his home during a tour of his new house. Biden...

Punches aren’t the only thing a Bonita Springs woman is accused of throwing Monday night. Deputies say she also threw pancakes at men in a McDonald's parking lot. Mariel G. Goodrich, 21, of the 8800 block of Colonnades Court, was arrested Monday by Collier deputies at the 700 block of Vanderbilt Beach Road. According to a Collier County Sheriff’s Office report: While a few unidentified men were purchasing food from a McDonald's drive-through, they began a conversation with Goodrich and her friend who were sitting in a gray Honda Ridgeline truck. Goodrich then threw her pancakes out the car window...

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports: "Sen. Jim Holperin (D-Conover) said Democratic senators were to meet in caucus again on Saturday night at an undisclosed location in Illinois. Holperin said the senators expect to remain out of state through the weekend, but eventually will have to make a decision – either to come back to Wisconsin, or because Gov. Scott Walker and Republicans move on the issue of ensuring the rights of public employee unions. The senator said he and his Democratic colleagues have been getting together at least once a day. Most meet personally, but some have called in by...

This just in from Newsweek's Eleanor Clift, a frequent purveyor of political anecdotes. She bring us an enlightening one here regarding the (quote) undisclosed location (unquote) we heard lots about in the days after Sept. 11. Here's Eleanor: Ever wonder about that secure, undisclosed location where Dick Cheney secreted himself after the 9/11 attacks? Joe Biden reveals the bunker-like room is at the Naval Observatory in Washington, where Cheney lived for eight years and which is now home to Biden. The veep related the story to his head-table dinner mates when he filled in for President Obama at the Gridiron...

Vice President Joe Biden, well-known for his verbal gaffes, may have finally outdone himself, divulging potentially classified information meant to save the life of a sitting vice president. According to a report, while recently attending the Gridiron Club dinner in Washington, an annual event where powerful politicians and media elite get a chance to cozy up to one another, Biden told his dinnermates about the existence of a secret bunker under the old U.S. Naval Observatory, which is now the home of the vice president. The bunker is believed to be the secure, undisclosed location former Vice President Dick Cheney...

Joe Biden is proving impossible to parody. In one of the few funny jokes at the White House correspondents dinner, Wanda Sykes won loud laughter when she joked that terrorists interested in learning America's most important secrets would only have to ask Biden how he's doing. According to an account in Newsweek, Biden did give up one of the country's secrets at another dinner where journalists and politicians make fun of Republicans (and occasionally laugh at each other). Biden told his dinnermates about the existence of a secret bunker under the Vice President's Residence at the U.S. Naval Observatory.

Marilyn McCarney, a volunteer at the Waynesboro (PA)Historical Society, would rather discuss this Franklin County community's 22-piece kitchen band than the top-secret military command bunker carved into Raven Rock Mountain six miles away. "What do you want to know about Site R for? It's just a hole in the ground ... but there's always been a lot of rumors surrounding it," said McCarney, a retired schoolteacher. In fact, Site R is the nuke-proof communications center that serves as Vice President Dick Cheney's secret bunker. Site R was built in Adams County about 50 years ago but didn't even garner a...
