Dem Senators Huddle, Showdown Looms

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports:

"Sen. Jim Holperin (D-Conover) said Democratic senators were to meet in caucus again on Saturday night at an undisclosed location in Illinois.

Holperin said the senators expect to remain out of state through the weekend, but eventually will have to make a decision – either to come back to Wisconsin, or because Gov. Scott Walker and Republicans move on the issue of ensuring the rights of public employee unions.

The senator said he and his Democratic colleagues have been getting together at least once a day. Most meet personally, but some have called in by phone. Not all of the senators are staying in the same location, he said.

There have been news reports that some senators are in Chicago, but Holperin said he is not in Chicago.

Holperin said he thinks Walker needs to sit down with union leaders, especially after unions said they were willing to negotiate on fringe benefits."

Things in Madison are heating up. The unions are still inside of the capitol and pro-Walker forces are marching.

The media may be portraying “thousands” in protest, but people who are out of jobs or looking at higher taxes aren’t going to buy it. If those Democratic Senators are starting to talk of coming back, they must be getting nervous. The Republicans have the wind to their sails on this...that is if they hang tough.

Lots of speculation that many of these Democrats are faking it and are holed up at home and staying indoors. Are the Wisconsin Staties going to come knocking with search warrants?

Sure some are in Illinois but....

Can we say they are “Petyophiles”? You heard it here first on FR radio.

What is this, the sand box is no longer theirs so they’ll act like children? Take my ball and go hide......

The states should draft a resolution that in cases where in an event of a national emergency that those that willfully allow themselves to be exempt and thus hinder the proper function of a government operation be immediately charged with felonies.

Be it on a atate or national level this is in effect hindering the normal operations of elected officials to govern the society, it should be called treason.

The Republicans do have recourse—this 20 senator quorum rule only applies to bills involving state financial concerns, if I’m not mistaken. There are a whole slew of other non-finance issues too on the Republican agenda, like voter ID and concealed carry. I think if the Republicans threatened to start passing pet agenda items, the senators of the Truant party might be inclined to hightail their little fannies back to Madison and what the taxpayers of this state are paying them to do.

If they want to run and hide, it would be a real good time to really run roughshod over them, while they are unable to fight back. If you wish for them to come back, give them a reason to come back. Attack something that they must defend.

I sure hope this is true.
Obviously the Wisconsin Republicans are strategizing this weekend and I'm looking for them to checkmate the Democrats during the next five business days

It would be really interesting if while they were gone bills were passed that allowed concealed carry without certification.

Voter ID though does put the pressure heavily upon the dems, they have no hope at all if such laws were heavily enforced.

“the Wisconsin Republicans are strategizing this weekend”

That would be refreshing. If the pubbies actually established some real party discipline to go along with the obvious public support they currently enjoy, they could get some significant things done.

The Republicans do have recourse

They have plenty of recourse. This Holperin guy has been in office for over a year. As such, he can be recalled under Wisconsin law (if I understand it correctly). I'd love to see a recall petition-drive started in his district.

Wonder if he might think better about staying away then?

Holperin said he thinks Walker needs to sit down with union leaders,

Uh...NO. The union is not the legislating body, nor a representative of the people of WI.

I hope the Republicans pass every item they feel like passing. The DIMs lost the elections in WI: House...Senate...and Governor. Maybe the people in WI wanted the DIMs to be the losers that they obviously are. Elections have consequences, you Communist loser DIMs.
