Wanted: A Safer Anti-Aircraft Missile for Syrian Rebels by Clay Dillow April 21, 2016, 5:48 PM EDT Deadly surface-to-air weapons, now with expiration date. As the Syrian cease-fire unravels, U.S. officials have indicated that they may be willing to provide Syrian rebel groups with the kind of sophisticated, shoulder-fired anti-aircraft weaponry that just might turn the tide in the five-year-old conflict. But it will do so if, and only if, those weapons include a safety mechanism that restricts where and when they can be used, Foreign Policy reports. Syrian rebel groups have long clamored for shoulder-fired anti-aircraft weapons—known as “man-portable...

The state’s highest court plans to review the constitutionality of a recently challenged state law that requires gun owners to lock their weapons, making it the first test in Massachusetts of a landmark US Supreme Court ruling that Americans have the constitutional right to own guns and stow them as they see fit. The SJC decided to review the law less than a year after a Lowell District Court judge dismissed firearms charges against a Billerica man whose handicapped son was accused of shooting a BB gun at a neighbor and who then showed police officers where his father kept...

I am in search of video of Governor Parris Glendening's press conference in, I believe, March of 2000. This is the press conference where he goes to demonstrate how quickly trigger locks can be removed from guns and he fumbles around for more than two minutes, totally making a fool of himself.

About 45 minutes ago, Fox News DC broadcast a live interview with morning anchor Bob Sellers and a DC councilman whose name I didn't get. During the 2 or 3 minute discussion, the councilman asserted several times that last week's SCOTUS ruling somehow reinforced or supported the city law requiring that gun in the home be "disabled" and equipped with gun locks. To which Fox's Sellers (who lives in Virginia) kind of shook his head and repeated that assertion as if to ask for clarification. I'm guessing that - like most of us - Sellers understood the SCOTUS ruling to...

MAYOR GIULIANI HOLDS PUBLIC HEARING ON TRIGGER LOCK BILL -Remarks By Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani At Public Hearing On Proposed Local Law- The bill before me today, Introductory Number 633, sponsored by Speaker Vallone and 37 of his colleagues, in conjunction with my Administration, would amend the Administrative Code of the City of New York, in relation to the use of safety locking devices with weapons. Specifically, this legislation would expand upon Local Law 21 of 1998 by requiring the purchaser of any weapon to also purchase a safety locking device. More importantly, this legislation would require that all gun...

Distressed at National Guard suicide rates 20 percent higher than the general population, Senator Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) called for remedial action. "Impressionable and confused young people are killing themselves at alarming rates," said Clinton. "We cannot sit idly by without doing something." Clinton speculated that the easy access to deadly weapons lies behind these suicides. "These National Guards have loaded guns in their hands!" Clinton screeched. "This is unsafe." Clinton proposed that National Guard weapons be fitted with trigger locks to which only unit commanders would have keys. The suicide rate for National Guard troops was 13 per 100,000 last...

The prevailing wisdom was that the bill was dead for the year. However, given the mercurial nature of legislation and legislative bodies, one can never be certain of what is going to happen as long as Congress is in session. One event that can always shake up the...
