Project Homesafe - OXYMORON? Project Homesafe, you gotta love these people. If it takes a village to triggerlock your gun, Project Homesafe seems determined to burn the village in order to save it. Last year at almost this exact time they were busy replacing 400,000 cable locks they distributed because anyone over the age of 12 could open them without a key. Recall the recall?PROMISES MADE, PROMISES BROKEN This year in Wake County, North Carolina, under the sponsorship of the North Carolina Sheriff's Association Project Homesafe sent their van and one unescorted Homesafe representative to at least two Wal-Marts where the (unescorted) representative immediately proceeded to set up shop in the FIRE LANE in front of the respective stores. Sadly, the manager on duty at one store did not understand the concept of "ShopSafe" as well as she seemed to understand Rosie O'Donnell's concept of "GunSafe" and refused to direct the Homesafe Representative to move the van thus potentially endangering hundreds of shoppers should an emergency occur in her store. |

Thankfully, the manager at the second store DID understand the legal ordinances and practical reasons requiring fire lanes to remain unobstructed at all times and directed the van to relocate. (Probably to the Handicapped Parking Space) (Just kidding! I made that up!)STOP THE MADNESS For some reason, in spite of the HomeSafe web page promise that these cable locks would be distributed with proper instruction from a certified Firearms Instructor and with the co-operation of local Peace Officers, the only instruction offered at these two Wal-Marts seemed to be a 30 second demonstration of how to attach the lock to various sidearms with the aid of several realistic looking replica (?) weapons. Any inexperienced individual who attempted to secure a firearm in the manner suggested in this brief demonstration could easily find themselves in hazardous circumstances with the possibility of a negligent or accidental discharge from the weapon reasonably likely. Further, the design of the cable lock itself may alter the proper mechanical alignment of the weapon's parts sufficiently to impair it's proper operation after the lock has been removed thus creating a hazard where none previously existed. |

|
This whole exercise is a shameful misuse of taxpayer money (5 Million Dollars!) to create the illusion of safety while in fact creating truly hazardous conditions in homes where such conditions have not previously existed. Call or write the National Shooting Sports Foundation and tell them to withdraw their support for this scandal-in-the-making. And be sure to let your elected Sheriffs and other elected officials know that you are knowledgeable about the extent of this fraud and you WILL Remember In November! Here is the sad experience of one family with California's Trigger Lock Law: Mary Carpenter Letter. |

Well, it looks as though the Homesafe saga continues. I wonder if Wal-Mart will get the message?

For your consideration.
Does anyone know why the pictures didn't post from the website?
Thanks.

I wonder if this will work:

Interesting!
Now I will try this one!

No thanks. My home is already safe because I keep my pistol locked in a quick access safe so the kids can't get to it and I can.

That doesn't work so well if you kids are 3 1/2 and 8 months.LOL

I notice you didn't say your 3 1/2 yr old was "handling" firearms.
My point is I am teaching my kids to respect firearms but I can't get my 3 1/2 yr old to stop standing on the couch even though I've told her a thousand times not to. A 3 1/2 yr old doesn't understand no/don't touch/ too dangerous to play with to know for sure they will not shoot themselves or someone else.
That's my point and it aint on top of my head. Beep beep beep beep. That's how fast I can get to my gun and it's a hell of a lot quicker that fishing around under my mattress.

I picked up six of them when they came thru my town.
They make excellent gate and bicycle locks.

They make excellent gate and bicycle locks. Cable locks really are useless for firearms. I used mine in Paris on the subway from DeGaulle into town - locked all my bags together & then to my ankle so I could safely take a nap!

Good point , no matter how educated my kids are my pride and bravado won't bring em back, integrity is being good when no ones watching per se ........
We don't have gun locks but we do have magna-triggers on our house guns. If my very young grandkids, nephew and niece are visiting then the 1911A1 is locked away in a liberty gun safe when it's not in my holster.
Stay Safe !

Re your # 18....Yes, but with her weight, would your fireplace remain standing?
After thinking about this problem I think I'll start sleeping with an elephant gun!!!

This isn't how I meant to prove my point.
I just was awoken by my dog barking about a 1/2 hour ago. He barks when the newspaper hits the porch. My daughter comes down to our bedroom about 2 mins. later complaining she is cold (her room is the coldest) and climbs into bed with us.
Now none of us will get to sleep another wink as our 8 month old is refusing to go back to sleep as well.
I decide, or rather my bladder decides, that I shouldn't just lay in bed but should go upstairs to piss and as I cross the hallway upstairs to go the bathroom I see a strange thing.
My daughter, before coming downstairs, had decided to pull the space heater over next to her bed. I've told her a million times don't touch the space heater, fire, bad bad bad, just like the wood stove will burn you up, cook you.
Well she did it anyway and the damn thing is right against her blanket, which if she had just pulled up off the floor she wouldn't have been cold, and now the blanket is in that magic moment where it's on fire but not in flames.
It has a hole melted through it about the size of my fist which seems appropriate because now I want to punch somebody or something I'm so mad. Luckily he blanket was/is flame retardent or it could have cost us the house and maybe my son who sleeps in the room next door to her.
Probably not him because the smoke detector is right over their doorways and I have two fire extiquishers mounted just outside of my doorway and one in the kitchen about 1 feet from my kid's doors.
Preparedness doesn't mean just have a weapon next to the bed and I guess I knew that but now I know it even more; just like a teenage girl who's period is a week late knows the importance of chastity and virtue a little better than she did last week.
