Almost no elected Republicans support giving gays the right to marry. The party’s influential social-conservative wing sees “traditional marriage” as a defining issue. And while most major Democrats are rushing to embrace same-sex marriage, none of the most prominent potential Republican presidential candidates have taken that step. But a powerful group of Republican donors, who see the GOP’s staunch opposition to gay rights as a major problem, is trying to push the party toward a more welcoming middle ground — where candidates who oppose marriage rights can do so without seeming hateful. The behind-the-scenes effort is being led largely by GOP mega-donor...

Multiple sources are reporting that U.S. Representative Tom Reynolds (R, NY) will announce that he is retiring. While, Reynolds' press secretary declined to confirm or deny the reports, his office confirmed that the congressman will hold a press conference at noon in Buffalo and at 2 p.m. in Greece on Thursday.

Let’s be honest about Tom Reynolds. He’s the western New York congressman whose giblets are in the fire over Mark Foley, the pervert who had the hots for teen-age boys. Mark Foley is the Florida congressman who seems to have spent the better part of his 10 years in the House of Representatives fantasizing about high-school pages. And Tom Reynolds is the guy who kicked him out of Congress. That’s the part that the evening news overlooks. In the mad rush by the media and the Democrats to lynch somebody over this Foley mess, nobody seems to remember that it’s...

(CNN) -- The head of the Republican House campaign committee apologized Saturday for not catching Rep. Mark Foley in alleged lies about his Internet exchanges with teen pages. Rep. Tom Reynolds, R-New York, issued the apology in a TV commercial aired in his Buffalo-area district. He also reiterated his assertion that he told House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Illinois, about Foley's behavior in the spring. "I trusted that others had investigated. Looking back, more should have been done, and for that, I'm sorry," Reynolds said. "I was told about odd but not explicit e-mails between Mark Foley and a page," he...

Preview and analysis for Weekend Talk Shows, 10-1-06 and 10-8-06 It's week five of the drive by media campaign to win back power in Washington for those who truly deserve it (in their minds), the Dhimmicrats. This week the attention shifts away from President Bush, because their lame but continuous attacks were beginning to work for him. Instead they are starting to point out to the ignorant boobs out there that the Republicans are really the party of homo values, kiddie porn, dirty talk and probably worse things, like drugs or even (horrors) rock and roll! They fully expect all...

National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Tom Reynolds (N.Y.), who was considered a safe bet for re-election just a few weeks ago, was trailing his Democratic challenger in the first public polls released since the scandal surrounding former Rep. Mark Foley (R-Fla.) broke out. In a related development, the Republican write-in candidate in the race to replace indicted former Rep. Tom DeLay (R-Texas) has halted plans to campaign with Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.). Reynolds, who said he brought concerns over Foley’s relationship with young pages to Hastert — and whose chief of staff resigned Wednesday over the Foley scandal — was...

WASHINGTON -- There is no doubt Rep. John Boehner of Ohio is quietly enlisting support from fellow House Republicans to elect him as majority leader in January. The question is whether Rep. Tom Reynolds of New York also is campaigning to be majority whip.Reports of a Boehner-Reynolds ticket have circulated in Washington, but Reynolds vigorously denies it. If he does run for whip, Reynolds would be accused of cutting and running from his duties as House Republican campaign chairman because of the difficult 2006 midterm election ahead.A special election in January would mean House Republicans have given up on Tom...

The ProjectUSA billboard at 499 Englewood in North Buffalo was defaced within days of going up. The Wall Street Journal's editorial page has denied responsibility. The billboards in Buffalo at 612 Sheridan Dr., 3684 Delaware, and 3670 River Rd have avoided any damage so far. The ProjectUSA voter awareness campaign in New York’s 26th congressional district was barely underway before someone ruined one of our billboards by scrawling the words "erase racism" across its face. The billboard carried the factual statement, “Congressman Tom Reynolds supports amnesty for illegal aliens,” and was one of four located in the northern and...
