A man arrested in Massachusetts during the investigation into the failed New York Times [NYT] Square bombing has pleaded guilty to immigration and illegal money transferring charges and now faces deportation to his native Pakistan. Aftab Ali, also known as Aftab Khan, was sentenced in federal court Tuesday to time served and placed in the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which is expected to deport him within weeks. He has been in federal custody for 11 months. Ali was one of three men arrested in New England in connection with the failed bombing attempt last May.

Faisal Shahzad, who attempted to detonate a car bomb in New York's Times Square on a crowded Saturday night, was sentenced to life in federal prison today. Before she pronounced sentence, Judge Miriam Cedarbaum said, "Mr. Shahzad, I think you should get up." Shahzad said "Allahu Akbar" after hearing the sentence, and said he would "sacrifice a thousand lives for Allah." (Snip) Shahzad also said he was happy with "the deal" God had given him. Arab TV station Al-Arabiya aired segments from a 40-minute video filmed in Pakistan of the failed Times Square bomber Faisal Shahzad. Within the video he vows to seek revenge and stated that the Muslim war has just started. “Eight years have passed since the Afghanistan war and you shall see how the Muslim war has just begun and how Islam will spread across the world”, Shahzad says within the video. The video also shows the logo of Umar Studios, a media organization that is infamous for making Pakastani Taliban propaganda.

The Pakistani Taliban were behind the failed Times Square bomb attempt last weekend, top administration officials said Sunday. Attorney General Eric Holder and White House counterterrorism adviser John Brennan said the investigation has led authorities to believe that suspect Faisal Shahzad trained with the Taliban in Pakistan and was funded by them.
