(from The History Channel) Last Stand of The 300 Saturday, March 17 08:00 PM Sunday, March 18 12:00 AM Friday, March 30 08:00 AM Friday, March 30 02:00 PM After Custer, Thermopylae is the most famous last stand in history. In a narrow pass in Northern Greece, seven thousand Greek soldiers await an onslaught of epic proportions. They will soon face the largest fighting force ever assembled--the war machine of the mighty Persian Empire, estimated at over a million men. The Greeks are led by three hundred of the most ferocious warriors of the ancient world--the Spartans. Their leader is...

I do not know whose bright idea it was to use real names in a historical fantasy instead of just calling it fiction. But is there any difference between the makers of this movie and Ahmadinejad? They are both blind to the truth. Brainwashing is wrong whether done by communists, Islamo-Fascists, or Warner Brothers. The intentions may be different, but the results are the same. Obscuring history and slandering a great civilization is an undeniable sin, and an intolerable offense by any standard. By many historical accounts contrary to his depiction in “300”, Xerxes was a wise man, a tolerant...

    225. Back in that day and age you were very likely to get your head chopped off. 224. Spartan women were hot. 223. It's OK to beat up a kid if you are a Spartan. 222. You won't find it in a history book, but Xerxes hung out with some really odd people. 221. When invading an island pick the worst spot to land and just go with it. 220. Never stand next to a well when talking to a Spartan. 219. Being selected as an Oracle really, really sucks. 218. If a Spartan bows to you...better beware because some...

TRANSCRIPT Now on to the movie 300. How many of you people know about the battle of Thermopylae? It's one of the most famous battles in all of battles. The battle of Thermopylae happened in 480 BC. That's 480 years before Christ. What happened was the Persians were on the march to try to take over Greece and a bunch of Peloponnesia. Now, Greece had a bunch of city states. Sparta was one of them. I don't know how much you know about the Spartans, but there is a reason why the term Spartans means spartan. Spartans were all born...

TEHRAN, Iran - The hit American movie "300" has angered Iranians who say the Greeks-vs-Persians action flick insults their ancient culture and provokes animosity against Iran. "Hollywood declares war on Iranians," blared a headline in Tuesday's edition of the independent Ayende-No newspaper. Even some American reviewers noted the political overtones of the West-against-Iran story line - and the way Persians are depicted as decadent, sexually flamboyant and evil in contrast to the noble Greeks. In Iran, the movie hasn't opened and probably never will, given the government's restrictions on Western films, though one paper said bootleg DVDs were already available....

It was a bloodbath at the U.S. box office this weekend because of 2007's first bonafide blockbuster. Warner Bros. told me this morning its 'R'-rated 300 about the epic Battle of Thermopylae shattered the record for the biggest March opening ever, and scored the 3rd biggest 'R'-rated movie debut ever, with its $70+ million. (Or, $70.025 mil to be exact, though the studio didn't provide a breakdown.) Other studios say this 'Gladiator Gore-Fest' raked in $27.7 mil to $28 mil Friday and $24.3 mil to $24.8 mil Saturday and an estimated $16 mil to $17.2 mil Sunday from its 3,103...

To the U.S. Marines serving at Camp Pendleton, there is much to learn from the Spartans, those heroic warriors of ancient Greece whom one might have called "the few, the proud" centuries before the Marine Corps adopted the motto. In the hit new film "300," Marines see parallels between the current war in Iraq and the film's story, which tells of hopelessly outnumbered Spartans fighting heroically to the death against mighty Persian invaders at the Battle of Thermopylae in 480 BC. There was periodic cheering Monday night at the Regal multiplex in downtown Oceanside, a few blocks from the main...

I just watched a trailer of the new movie coming out - 300. It looks fairly decent. Anyone have anything to say about the movie? There are scenes where the talk about freedom and being free. I do not know the history of back then, but watching the trailer, I seemed to get a connection with what is going on in the world right now concerning the WOT and the storyline of the movie. They go against Persia - modern day Iran. 300 against one million - the United States against the world. Am I reading too much into this?...

ATHENS – Greek critics have blasted "300," a Hollywood recreation of the 480 BC Battle of Thermopylae, where King Leonidas of Sparta held back a massive Persian military invasion, leading to its eventual defeat. The movie – an adaptation of artist Frank Miller's graphic novel – opens in Greece on Friday and will show at 70 screens in greater Athens. The popular Athinorama magazine described the film as a ``bloodlust videogame." Daily Ta Nea newspaper gave Zack Snyder's "300" zero out of 10, with critic Dimitris Danikas claiming the film even carried a message about the U.S. war on terror....

I just saw 300 and I could see why the libs would be up in arms over it. From quips such as "freedom is not free" and them "boy loving Athenians(in a derogatory term)", you could also see that this was set as a clash of civilizations, freedom versus slavery. The movie overall is very gory and is not for the feint of heart but it is well worth your time if you like Frank Miller's work and you want to see history retold, although not 100% accurate.

Only after watching the epic movie "300"--about free men of the West willing to die at Thermopylae rather than kneel to an Eastern king--did I read the reviews. I'm conflicted about the film, but the reviews were quite entertaining. Especially the reviews that were so turgid with praise, focusing on the rippling chests and rippling abdomens of the near-naked Spartan warriors, the slo-mo blood globules and the thrusting, thrusting, thrusting of the spears. OK, OK, I get it. Warnography is hard to define, but you know it when you see it. Some ripped the movie, including one East Coast reviewer...

Tehran, March 11, Taliya News – Once again U.S propaganda machine raid another attack against Iran, its culture and civilization through a hateful movie:"300" "300" is the name of an irresponsible, unethical and unscientific movie which portraits Persian Empire kings and soldiers as monsters and animals with body-piercing, armors, facial features and demonic behavior that seem to have sprung out from the dungeons of hell. The inaccurate and derogatory depiction of ancient Persians that according to all historical data conducted warfare with mastery and dignity, and looked nothing like science-fictional monsters, is a depiction of how movie studios and authors...

Like watching a blood-drunk barbarian on a rampage, 300, like its title, drops the pretense of history—it purports to dramatize the ancient battle of Thermopylae between Spartans and Persians—and offers what can only be described as a mongrel mix of audio-visual fury. 300 is History hijacked by Horror. A band of Spartan men go to war led by a king (Gerard Butler) married to a queen (Lena Headey) who insulted the enemy that marches upon their civilization, which is depicted as a haven for hateful half-savages. It's easier to follow who's who and what's what than one might expect, yet...
