  • What Conservative Justice Ruled with Liberals Not To Hear Maryland High School vs Caleigh Wood case?

    10/26/2019 4:56:33 PM PDT · by OneVike · 47 replies
Vanity, Vanity, Vanity, but inquiring minds need to know. Which of the 4 conservative justices voted not to hear the case involving the issue of Maryland High School student Caleigh Wood, who refused to take part in a school assignment to write the Islamic conversion prayer. My guess it was Roberts, but you never know, and regardless of how I try I cannot find out which Justice it was. Anyone know which Supreme Court justice, or more, decided to vote with the Godless liberals not to hear the case?

Mitt Romney, the GOP nominee and front-runner in Utah’s U.S. Senate race, said Friday that had he been in office, he would have supported the Supreme Court nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh, who appears poised to be confirmed Saturday. “I would vote to confirm Judge Kavanaugh,” Romney said, “given his decades of admirable public service and his 12-year record as an accomplished justice on the second highest court of the land.”

The Supreme Court of the United States has finally ruled on an issue mentioned in the October 2015 syllabus, and first argued in February of 2016. The decision ruled that people convicted of any domestic abuse crimes can no longer legally own firearms. The efforts were taken in order to “close a dangerous loophole” that allowed people convicted of “minor” domestic abuse to purchase and own weapons legally. Now, the ban on felons owning firearms has been extended to include people convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence. • Legal Scholars Rise Up Against the Supreme Court’s Judicial Despotism

I’ve been saying that 2015 is the year of pushback, and this might be the most significant act of pushing back so far: A group of legal scholars, most of them university professors, have declared that the Supreme Court’s redefinition of marriage this past June 26th is not “the law of the land,” and they are calling on all office holders, together with all presidential candidates, to join them in rejecting the Court’s decision. Make no mistake about it: This is really big news. These scholars, who teach at schools like Princeton and Oxford and Notre Dame and Boston and...
  • Shuffling nominees, Bush may hit jackpot (Sen. Reid suggested Miers???)

With the O'Connor seat, Bush will have seized the grand prize of the decades-long struggle over the ideological balance of the Supreme Court. Fate's ironic twists along that path are instructive. Bush wanted to name a minority or a woman to the O'Connor seat. He consulted with Democrats and even named someone they suggested. But it was not to be. Eager to avoid a confirmation fight and appoint a woman if not a Hispanic to succeed O'Connor -- the first woman named to the Supreme Court -- Bush accepted the advice of Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid and chose White...

US Court Rejects Appeal on Ban on Sex Toy Sale WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Supreme Court (news - web sites) rejected on Tuesday a constitutional challenge to an Alabama law that makes it a crime to sell sex toys. The high court refused to hear an appeal by a group of individuals who regularly use sexual devices and by two vendors who argued the case raised important issues about the scope of the constitutional right to sexual privacy. The law prohibited the distribution of "any device designed or marketed as useful primarily for the stimulation of human genital organs."...
  • The Long, Illustrious History of Filibusters (Refresher)

Filibusters have a long and illustrious history. The term, from a Dutch word meaning "pirate," became popular in the 1850s to describe efforts to control the Senate floor in order to prevent action on a bill. Wilson wanted to get around senators who were filibustering his efforts to bring America into World War I, Baker said. Lawmakers had used a 23-day, end-of-session filibuster to defeat his proposal to arm merchant ships, which led Wilson to say the "Senate of the United States is the only legislative body in the world which cannot act when its majority is ready for action....
