So, You Say You Support the Troops, But..... Written by Russ Vaughn Wednesday, January 26, 2005 So You Say You Support The Troops? 2d Ed. It’s so easy to say you support the troops, regardless of which side you come down on in the issue of the War in Iraq itself. Yeah, you can send care packages and put yellow ribbon magnets on your car to make you feel all warm and fuzzy that you’re doing your own small part. You can do as I do and use forums such as this one to expound the viewpoint of the folks...

EUGENE, Ore. – The University of Oregon is defending its decision to tell one of its delivery drivers to remove a "Support Our Troops" magnet from the state-owned truck he uses at work. Oregon law prohibits personal messages on state-owned vehicles, regardless of the context. Several months ago, driver Pete Baker put the yellow ribbon magnet on the back of the state truck. University officials learned of the magnet and said last week it had to come off, and Baker's story quickly found its way to radio talk shows and to several military Web logs. "I don't know how they...

  • Cancel The Academy Awards

In light of the fact that so much money is obviously spent promoting the Academy Awards, buying dresses and jewels, Hollywood should do the right thing and cancel this elaborate celebration. Money that would have been spent by Hollywood should instead, be donated to American military families who have lost loved ones or may be suffering economic hardship as a result of deployment. From MSNBC: ...Other film awards, including the Directors Guild of America prizes Jan. 29 and the Screen Actors Guild honors Feb. 5, will help sort out the leaders heading in to the Oscars on Feb. 27.

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Bush is offering an in-person thank-you to U.S. troops next week with a visit to Camp Pendleton in California. Soldiers from Camp Pendleton have been dying almost daily in Iraq. Among their missions, Camp Pendleton Marines were among the thousands of U.S. and Iraqi troops that fought recently to secure the insurgent stronghold of Fallujah. Bush will deliver a speech and have lunch with troops while at Camp Pendleton on Tuesday, White House press secretary Scott McClellan said Thursday. "This is an opportunity to thank the troops for all their service and sacrifice in defense of...
