New York AG Letitia James indicted in Virginia after investigation by Trump's DOJ

A grand jury in Virginia indicted New York Attorney General Letitia James on Thursday, marking the second Trump foe to face federal prosecution in recent weeks.

James was charged with one count of bank fraud and one count of making false statements to a financial institution. The indictment alleges that James bought a house in Norfolk, Virginia, in 2020 with a mortgage that required her to use it as a second home, but she ultimately rented it to a family and used it as an investment property. It accuses her of misrepresenting how the house was used to get a more favorable interest rate.

Lindsey Halligan, the acting U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, said in a statement: "No one is above the law. The charges as alleged in this case represent intentional, criminal acts and tremendous breaches of the public's trust."

James received deals on mortgage terms by falsifying information related to several different properties over the course of decades — not including the 2020 purchase that led to Thursday's charges. Pulte's allegations include listing another home in Norfolk, Virginia, as her "principal residence" despite living and working in New York, buying a five-family property in Brooklyn with a loan that is only available for homes with four units or less, and an accusation that in 1983, James' father signed mortgage documents stating they were husband and wife.

Was a grand jury. Nothing to do with Trump.

Notice it omits she got a Biden judge assigned to her case.

This was her old house. The indictment. May be a second one coming on her newer one.

Ah, but she didn’t default and paid it all back, so what’s the problem?

Um, nope! That arguement didn’t work for DJT, so it ain’t gonna work for you, Lie-ticia! (Even if you DID pay it back; something I doubt that you have done, yet.)

What is sauce for the gander, is sauce for the goose, Lie-tiecia!

Her crime should be making false charges against a Presidential candidate.

In 1994 I had a neighbor that was prosecuted for false entries on their mortgage application, three years after buying the house. They overstated their earnings (wages) by 4,200 per year. He served three years. She served six months. They had not defaulted or caused any loss to any financial institutions.

They lied on federally backed loan documents. That's it. No priors.

Fortunately her parents moved into the house, took care of the bills and kids until he got out.

The law was the law. They knowingly lied. If it had been a private mortgage, nobody would care.

In the future, always explore private equity. Stop feeding the beast. It will bite you if it needs to show itself.

Well, payback is a female canine.

I don’t know if this will result in constant lawfare, or some kind of detent in the future... the best scenario is that we’ll get future candidates who are clean and honest.

Yeah, even I laugh at that idea.

Was she ever married or had children? I honestly don’t know but I suspect she’s of the XX on XX varietal. Not that I really care about any of that personal bedroom stuff. I think a politician has every right to invest in property as long as it is all above board. This AG seems to have gamed the system to her advantage on several occasions. Primary residence loan for an investment property - no no. Faking a 5 unit building into a 4 unit building - no no. Is it “common” among investors? Probably. Is it criminal? Yes. So indict her.

Of course the irony of her being guilty of the same crimes she has alleged against Trump (and anyone else???) is not lost on me. It makes it all the more egregious. If Trump faked his paperwork he should also face the music. But in Trump’s case he got Private Loans not government loans. The Bank literally cut his valuations in half and said that even at half the valuation he qualified for a loan. So it’s not really apples to apples. She (allegedly) defrauded the government which backs some of these loans. He got private money not backed by the government.

Thanks for that info, Dog, I will remember it when advising my family not to use government controlled mortgage lenders. We will stick with private mortgage lenders.

As the saying goes:
Careful how you treat people on your way up, because you're going to meet them again on your way down.

ya know, i always thought it was going to be this way. The democrats pursued trump trying to put him in jail and they failed because he was innocent. Now they’re getting the same treatment and they’re dirty as hell.

They should not have open that box.
