Cancel The Academy Awards
PABAAH ^

Posted on 01/21/2005 5:27:56 AM PST by Jon Alvarez

In light of the fact that so much money is obviously spent promoting the Academy Awards, buying dresses and jewels, Hollywood should do the right thing and cancel this elaborate celebration. Money that would have been spent by Hollywood should instead, be donated to American military families who have lost loved ones or may be suffering economic hardship as a result of deployment.

From MSNBC:
...Other film awards, including the Directors Guild of America prizes Jan. 29 and the Screen Actors Guild honors Feb. 5, will help sort out the leaders heading in to the Oscars on Feb. 27.

Of course, this is a bit tongue in cheek. It's Hollywood's money to spend as it chooses, who are we to tell them what to do with it? Maybe one day that concept will register with the liberals in this country. We would like to know when Hollywood will host a telethon to support the troops. After all, many celebrity pundits have claimed to "support the troops, not the war". We also note that there have been zero USO tours by left-leaning celebs except for Robin Williams.

If it were cancelled no one would know how pretty, smart, and important they are. Not!

Exactly!!
They were griping and complaining about the inaugural ball. Let's see how generous they are when its their time in the limelight.

I saw an interesting article in People's magazine not too long ago saying that if you attended the Republican convention you would have been given a goody bag totaling $160. If you attended the Academy Awards you would have been given a goody bag totaling $16,000 (yes-that's correct). Where the Republican conventioners got things like mouth wash and breath mints, those attending the AA receive stereo systems and diamond watches.

Why without the Oscars those poor artists might actually realize how unimportant and pointless their lives really are, we can't have that can we?

Maybe they'll pin little ribbons on their formal wear to show support.

They were griping and complaining about the inaugural ball.

"Hollywood liberals could not be reached for comment on the cost of the inauguration because they were being fitted for gowns and jewelry worth millions of dollars in anticipation of Oscar night." Ann Coulter

The Academy Awards did attempt a toned down presentation in recent years. It was a dumb idea then, and it still is.
They just don't learn.

Is it one of those things where people dress up and kiss each other's butts?

The partcipants were suspiciously well behaved and largely apolitical last year. It was as if some backstage Nazgul had given them their Orders for the Day. I wonder if the same will hold true this year.

Of course, this is a bit tongue in cheek.

But powerful satire because you realize what a bunch of clueless morons the Hollywood Left are for even suggesting President Bush cancel the Inauguration in the first place.

I think that is a fabulous idea. In fact, I would suggest that these hero citizens should donate ALL of their overseas sales profits to charities that benefit the world. After all, they're taking from the world for their own profit aren't they? I mean, people in the developing countries can't really afford to shell out that kind of money when feeding themselves is a daily problem. What kind of caring individual would steal food from the mouth of a third world child for the sake of greed and profit over a CD full of bellowing and warbeling that only costs a cent or two to produce?

OTOH, if they do go ahead with the celebration, then they should do it in a totally gun-free way. NO bodyguards. NO concealed carry. NO security. If they don't show trust and love for all the people in the world - who will?

All I am saying is give peace a chance.
