The two largest U.S. flight attendant unions, representing more than 75,000 workers, endorsed Democrat Joe Biden on Tuesday ahead of the U.S. presidential election next week. The unions have been pressing Congress and Republican U.S. President Donald Trump to back $25 billion in additional payroll assistance to prevent 32,000 airline furloughs. The Association of Professional Flight Attendants, representing the 27,000 American Airlines flight attendants, and the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA that represents about 50,000 workers at 20 airlines, said in separate statements they were endorsing Biden.

British Airways bosses fear having to scrap lucrative flights because of mounting complaints about raucous cabin crew parties at luxury hotels. Topless air hostesses and champagne-fuelled pool parties have prompted a flood of protests about wild behaviour. Now BA has warned its captains to control their crews during overnight stops – or the airline may be forced to abandon at least one route. The problem is particularly acute on routes crewed by young recruits – so-called ‘mixed fleet’ which was at the heart of the recent BA industrial dispute. A BA source said: ‘Mixed fleet crews are basically kids of...
  • Let stewardesses land the plane in a crisis, says Ryanair boss: Airline wants to ditch co-pilots

Ryanair's ever-controversial boss has called for the second pilot to be dumped from the flight deck of aircraft to save money. Michael O'Leary suggested air stewardesses could be trained to take over and land the plane in the event of a crisis. The idea is the latest in a long line of cash-saving wheezes from the budget airline boss who once suggested, apparently seriously, that aircraft could fly with standing-only areas for passengers.

India's state-run carrier Air India has dismissed 10 women flight attendants who were grounded last year for being overweight, a report said Monday. The sackings came after the cabin crew were warned about meeting minimum physical fitness standards and given sufficient time to lose weight, the Press Trust of India news agency reported quoting airline sources. The flight attendants were also offered alternative ground assignments which they refused, the report said.

A group of stunning Brazilian stewardesses from the former airline Varig are negotiating a contract with the Brazilian edition of Playboy magazine for the publication of nude photographs. Sources from the magazine in Brazil revealed the idea is a repeat of the Playboy 2002 experience in the United States with former personnel from the scandalous bankruptcy of the Enron Group. According to ER Communications, which manages Playboy's public relations in Brazil "a negotiation is on" with Varig staff, but no agreement has been reached yet, and if an agreement is reached, "there's no timetable for the publication of the pictures."...
  • Airline Calendar Girls

CHICAGO (AP) _ Some United Airlines flight attendants are baring more than their souls to protest being stripped of their pensions. Five women, ranging in age from 55 to 64, are posing for a 2006 calender. Retired flight attendant Connie Baker is the project's creator and one of the volunteer models. She hopes the calendar will raise some money for charity and some awareness about United's pension situation. Baker says her pension will be cut in half thanks to a decision by a bankruptcy court that will allow the airline to terminate retirement benefits. While Baker and the others show...

CHICAGO - While some United Airlines employees are using placards and pamphlets to protest the loss of their pensions, a group of flight attendants is taking a more risque tack — showing some skin to publicize their plight. The five women, ranging in age from 55 to 64, posed for a 2006 calendar that depicts them in various states of undress in front of a vintage plane, on a park bench and on a plane's wing, among other locations. Reflecting a mix of humor and anger, it was released to coincide with a bankruptcy court's approval this week of United's...

Ice cream led to flight rageBy Elissa Hunt August 8, 2003A MAN who caused a mid-flight ruckus after getting caught sharing his ice cream with his fiancee in economy got his just deserts yesterday. The Port Melbourne man faced Melbourne Magistrates' Court yesterday on a charge of common assault on an aircraft. Magistrate Anne Maughan heard the man's fiancee was seated four rows behind him in economy on a flight from...
