After a half-decade of drought, California has been buffeted this winter by a series of powerful rain and snowstorms that dumped countless billions of gallons of water on the state’s watersheds. Some of the deluge was captured in the form of mountain snows that will feed rivers and streams during the annual spring melt. But at lower elevations, it was rain, some retained in man-made reservoirs that had become seriously depleted, but most flowing swiftly to the Pacific Ocean. At one point last week, flows on the Sacramento River and its American River tributary were more than 130,000 cubic feet...

Reading what went on in Atlanta this week is just amazing! I moved to Florida after living near Chicago and the lake snow region of NW Indiana most of my life. We had to deal with bad ice storms in Southern Illinois when I was young and while at the University of Illinois in Champaign. Three inches of snow in Chicago is NOTHING. They got rid of a mayor that didn’t get and keep the roads open. I had to teach in Chicago Heights, IL when the temperature was -48 and the wind chill was -82. As I recall, I...

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - Today's snowstorm made this month the snowiest December in New Hampshire in more than a century. The National Weather Service in Gray, Maine, said Concord, where New Hampshire records are kept, beat the previous record of 43 inches of snow in December by an inch and a half. That record was set in 1876. Overall, the storm left 10.1 inches in Concord, and more in other parts of the state.

Previous Record Dates Back To 1894. It certainly made for quite the winter wonderland on this Christmas Day, and provided quite the surprise to residents. “I think we expected a few flurries and there's probably eight or nine inches now. It's just like Norman Rockwell," . Denver officially recorded 7.8 inches of snow on Christmas Day. The storm dropped the most snowfall in Denver on Christmas Day in more than 100 years. The previous all-time record for snowfall on Dec. 25 in Denver was 6.2 inches, recorded in handwritten records in 1894. Meteorologists say the latest storm boosted Denver's December...

Madison, WI is on the verge of setting an all-time December snowfall record, and it could happen Friday. With a forecast for up to nine inches of snow Friday, the record of 35 inches set in 2000 could be toppled by Friday night. Anything over seven inches the rest of 2007 at Dane County Regional Airport will break the mark since the current snowfall total for December is right about 28 inches. The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for Friday for southern Wisconsin including Dane County because a low pressure system expected to develop in the...
