Eating meat could be made illegal like smoking in pubs, says top barrister Eating meat could become illegal in the future due to the damage caused to the environment, says a leading barrister calling for a new ecocide law. Michael Mansfield QC says new legislation is needed to criminalise the wilful destruction of nature, which he described as a crime against humanity. There are plenty of things that were once commonplace that are now illegal such as smoking inside. We know that because the UN has told us so. The organisation's director, Juliet Gellatley, said: Thirty years ago people didn't...

A viral video that shows a Florida man receiving a warning for allowing the smell of barbecue to waft off his property has some smoking mad. Scotty Jordan uploaded a video on July 22 to Facebook that he says shows Pinellas County environmental specialist Joe Graham issuing a warning to Jordan and a friend for violating the county’s air quality law. The video, which has been watched over four million times, shows Graham telling Jordan that there's too much smoke emanating from Jordan's commercial-grade grill. “I just took three pictures of smoke,” Graham explains. “I can smell it again right...

SAN FRANCISCO -- Let's hope you weren't planning to cook that turkey over an open fire. Air quality officials have called a Spare the Air alert for Thanksgiving, meaning the burning of wood and manufactured fire logs is banned both indoors and outdoors from midnight tonight until midnight Thursday. The use of any wood-burning device, including fireplaces, wood stoves, pellet stoves and outdoor fire pits, is illegal during that period, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District said. The wood-burning ban covers Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, southern Sonoma and southwestern Solano counties.

Washington States own Senior Senator, Patty Murray, tennis shoed lovable little mouse that she is, has joyfully announced how she and other Democrats have locked arms and decided to “stick it to the poor” people they claim to care about and want to help. Of course that isn’t exactly what she says, but that is the obvious outcome of their strong support and passing of the Children’s Health Insurance Program, CHIP. After all the bleeding heart fearmongering of children receiving no health care today and all the millions of dollars that will come to Washington State, Murray unwittingly reveals how...

Three sick children portrayed in City Hall's newest anti-cigarette ad may not be victims of tobacco smoke after all. The footage of the children came from photo-agency archives, the Health Department said in a statement. "The children pictured in this ad are real patients, suffering from conditions that have been clearly associated with exposure to secondhand smoke," the statement said. "The children are not presented as individual victims of environmental tobacco smoke. We do not know their individual medical histories." Paula Alex, CEO of the Advertising Educational Foundation, said, "That is not necessarily truthful advertising." Jan Wicks, a University of...

Atlanta, Ga. – In a joint press conference on Friday, the World Health Organization and the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention announced that the premature death of a Montana man will be caused by exposure to Second Hand Smoke. “After extensive conversation with the SAMMEC computers and after long and grueling hours of torturing the data until it told us what we want to hear, we are finally prepared to definitively state that Richard Mooreheads’ death will be a direct result of his exposure to Second Hand Smoke.” Said WHO Director-General Dr. Margaret Chan “We can find no...

The two-year campaign will be run by the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC), Peking Union Medical College and the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. "The joint scheme will refine and optimize tobacco control intervention in China," said China CDC director Wang Yu, calling for...

Peabody businessman Bruce Lerner is joining the fast-growing list of entrepreneurs “frustrated out of business” by strict state and local regulations that small-business advocates say are choking the lifeblood of America’s economy. “It’s the sheer plethora of regulations,” said Carolyn Logue, a state director with the National Federation of Independent Businesses. “It seems many were just drafted to give someone, somewhere a job to do. Nobody looks at the goals and whether they’re actually accomplishing anything.” Three weeks ago, the North Shore Tobacco Control Program sent a 17-year-old decoy into Lerner’s Main Street Smoke Shop in Peabody. She made it...

Clark Plunk wants the state to ban smoking in restaurants. He wants it so much that he planned to run for the legislature when he found out that his representative wasn't of a similar smoke-free mind. Rep. W.C. 'Bubba' Pleasant, a smoker, "told me his view is if you own a restaurant or bar, it should be your prerogative to say if you want smoking or non-smoking," says Plunk. Plunk's view is that smokers' rights stop at the tip of his nose. When Cuba, land of the fine cigar, bans smoking in restaurants, but bills to do the same in...
