LANSING – Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed a slate of new gun control bills into law on November 20 that confiscate firearms and ammunition from people in Michigan who have been convicted of both violent and non-violent misdemeanors under new legal definitions of “domestic violence misdemeanors” established in the new laws. These bills, passed by the democrat-controlled state house and senate, broadly expand the category of misdemeanors considered to be “domestic violence” to include many infractions that are clearly not violent, allow law enforcement to confiscate all firearms from anyone convicted of these misdemeanors, and prohibit anyone convicted of these misdemeanors...

It is a valuable resource for everyone interested in firearms statistics and legislation. Gary Kleck’s book has large amounts of data, which is difficult to find with an Internet search. The book was published when the Internet was in...

Minuteman statue detail, Lexington, Credit: Tim Grafft/MOTT There’s a perennial debate in gun politics in the United States. The gun control side makes various specious arguments claiming that the Second Amendment protects muskets and not modern arms, that the right to keep and bear arms belongs to a select militia like the National Guard, not We the People, and that “well-regulated” authorizes the de facto destruction of our rights via regulation. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Those of us who have studied the copious scholarly research on the text and history of the Second Amendment know that those arguments are bunk. We know that...

Democratic U.S. Senators Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut, and Democratic U.S. Representatives Robert Garcia of California and Debbie Wasserman-Schultz of Florida introduced the bill on Nov. 2, according to news releases from Warren and Garcia’s offices. Under the Ammunition Modernization and Monitoring Oversight Act, businesses selling ammunition must possess the same federal licenses gun dealers are required to obtain, according to the bill’s sponsors. Furthermore, ammunition vendors must conduct...

Yesterday, Freeper Yo-Yo posted an article here about Larry Vickers (Master Sergeant, US Army, retired), a Delta Force bad-ass who pleaded guilty to charges relating to his collection of fully-automatic weapons, most or all of which had at one time he had owned lawfully. Today, an editorial by the Second Amendment Foundation's Lee Williams calls it banana republic justice. ATF pursuit of decorated American soldier about headlines, not justiceby Lee Williams The ATF wants to imprison a decorated American soldier for a series of victimless crimes, even though the federal regulations he’s accused of violating may not be constitutional, and...

Last June, Ohio became the 23rd state in the nation to adopt a “permitless carry” law, allowing legal gun owners to both keep and bear arms without having to first obtain a government permission slip. At the time, gun control activists and anti-gun politicians decried the move and declared it would make the state a more dangerous place. State Rep. Allison Russo even claimed that “Republicans have made it crystal clear that they value the approval of the gun lobby more than the lives of Ohioans and the police officers who protect our communities every day.”With the FBI’s crime statistics...

In July of 2022, the Supreme Court, in a landmark 6-3 decision, ruled that the EPA overstepped its authority by creating rules and regulations regarding forcing power plants to transition to clean or renewable energy sources. SCOTUS ruled that the EPA, in effect, created rules that carry the same weight as laws passed by Congress, thus violating Article I of the Constitution, which states that all legislative powers shall be granted to Congress only. Thus making Congress the only body that can introduce and pass legislation, not a state or federal agency. The court says it [the EPA] is protecting...

On a recent flight, I found myself seated next to a man I’ll call Rick, who was keen for conversation. We established that we are both lawyers. Rick works for the government, and I explained that I lead a gun violence prevention organization. Rick took that as an invitation to talk about guns. A self-described “2A fanatic” from Texas, Rick grew up with guns and today owns more than 40 firearms. He considers himself a collector, and many of his guns are antiques — he’s not interested in assault-style firearms — and he makes his own ammunition from recycled casings....

The staff at the Everytown-supported website “The Trace” have done an amazing job of integrating their anti-gun viewpoints into mainstream media over the past few years. Reporters for the pro-gun control website have seen their bylines at USA Today and more than 150 other news outlets, while Trace reporter Jennifer Mascia was named to CNN’s “Guns in America” team last October. While mainstream media outlets have incorporated The Trace’s reporting into their own coverage, the views of their staffers are anything but mainstream, as Mascia reminded us on X/Twitter on Monday. "@JenniferMascia" "To the gun lobby and its media, a...

There’s more. Once they are granted the right to carry a gun, Israelis are limited to just 50 bullets in their possession at any given time. They must shoot or return old bullets before they can buy new ones, a process that can only take place at tightly regulated shooting ranges where each bullet’s sale is carefully registered. The types of guns permitted also depend on the reason for the license – i.e., a veterinarian may only purchase a gun approved by the government for the killing of animals, a hunter’s license only permits the purchase of a firearm from...

The Supreme Court on Oct. 6 lifted a lower court order blocking the Biden administration’s rule regulating so-called ghost guns that can be assembled at home, allowing the policy to remain in force until Oct. 16. The new order from Justice Samuel Alito came late in the day on Oct. 6 in an emergency application in a case known as Garland v. Blackhawk Manufacturing Group Inc. (court file 23A302). U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland filed the application on behalf of the Biden administration. The lower court order is now administratively stayed until 5 p.m. on Oct. 16.
