MailOnline can reveal today how volunteers have been left 'incandescent at the lack of leadership' amid the chaos at the World Scout Jamboree which has seen hundreds treated for heat-related illnesses and forced the US and UK to pull children out. Organisers - who have been heavily criticised for poor preparation - are now facing demands to cancel the event as South Korea battles with a blistering heatwave, where temperatures have soared to 100F. The 4,500-strong UK contingent, the largest at the jamboree, announced yesterday that they would evacuate children to hotels in Seoul for the rest of their stay,...

A seminal moment in the lives of tens of thousands of young men occurred in 2017 when they attended the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) National Jamboree, where they were addressed by President Donald Trump. The Jambo traditionally has always been a transformative experience for the youths who attend it — two weeks away from their families in a tween- and teen-boy paradise, a sylvan Never Land where they can belch and play with cool, nerdy stuff and whittle and stink without having to worry about impressing girls or being nagged not to do something dangerous. Anywhere from 2% to...

Two Boy Scout troops from Wisconsin played a major role in the rescue when an Amtrak train derailed in Missouri after hitting a dump truck at an uncontrolled crossing. The BSA’s leftist agenda results in a membership drop from 1.97 million to 762,000. *** The BSA announced last week its $850 million settlement with thousands of abuse claimants, the vast majority being from many decades ago. *** In January of 2013, in a “Letter to an Eagle Scout,” I responded to the dismay over a proposal by the BSA National Board to remove the membership restriction regarding sexual orientation. In May of that year, the BSA’s national board, under the “leadership” of wealthy corporate types who were completely out of touch with grassroots Scouting values, promoted and implemented a...

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg says that if she steps down now, President Obama would not be able to appoint an acceptable replacement. Ginsburg, who reiterated that she has no imminent plans to retire, told Elle that it would be next to impossible for the Senate to confirm a new justice to the court who she would approve of. In a statement released in support of Black Lives Matter, the Boy Scouts of America said it will require Eagle Scouts to earn a diversity and inclusion badge. It'll examine its own role in perpetuating racism, too. The organization, which also condemned the deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor, said it "has not been as brave as we should have been" when it comes to calling out racism. "The Boy Scouts of America stands with Black families and the Black community because we believe that Black Lives Matter," the organization said in a letter on Scoutingwire, the...

Dear Scouting family, As our country reckons with racial injustice, we all must consider our role and our failures and commit to meaningful action. The twelve points of the Scout Law that define a Scout are all important, but at this moment, we are called on to be brave. Brave means taking action because it is the right thing to do and being an upstander even when it may prompt criticism from some. We realize we have not been as brave as we should have been because, as Scouts, we must always stand for what is right and take action...
