Nothing says "saving democracy" and "preserving norms" like totally rigging the system.
It's like calling sterilizing and mutilating children "care." A complete inversion of reality wrapped up in comforting words.
Since at least 2016, the Democrats have focused all their attention on rigging elections, both within their own party and for the electorate as a whole. As the Democrats have seen their coalition disintegrate, they have responded by employing ever more Byzantine tactics to ensure victory. Not that victories have been ensured, yet...they have only stacked the deck in their favor...so they move on to the next step.
Let's take a look back at what Democrats believed "Saving Democracy" meant in the past five election cycles...
During the 2016 election cycle, Democrats paid for the Steele Dossier, created a fake Russia Collusion narrative, and used it to open the Crossfire Hurricane Investigation against Trump.
During the 2018 election cycle, Democrats weaponized our federal bureaucracy and they used the Mueller Special Counsel Investigation and Kavanaugh's Supreme Court nomination to create an astroturfed media panic against Trump.
During the 2020 election cycle, Democrats wrongly impeached Trump, covered-up Hunter’s laptop and Biden family corruption, promoted BLM riots, and abused COVID restrictions.
During the 2022 election cycle, Democrats wrongly impeached Trump again, conducted a politicized January 6th Committee, facilitated an invasion of illegal aliens, and sent the FBI/DOJ after law-abiding Americans.
During the 2024 election cycle, Democrats engaged in unprecedented lawfare, charged Trump 91 times, put Trump up against two general election opponents, and Trump even survived two assassination attempts.
For the past several years, the Democrats have talked about packing the courts, and James Carville is now pushing the idea yet again, but with a twist. He also wants to add four U.S. senators to the "D" column, as well as new Members of Congress. Not to mention new Electoral College votes.
When they get back in power, I have no doubt that they will bite the bullet and do their best to implement their plan. Whether they could succeed, I cannot say, but they sure will try.
What do they have to lose? They have something around 20% approval. Give it a shot, right?
I would not like to place bets on whether the old guard in the Democratic Party would go along. Certainly, when the Joe Lieberman-types were around, these proposals would get nowhere. But there are a lot of new and more radical Democrats in Congress, and the Democratic base is far more radical than in the 1990s.
Carville is an old fossil from that time, but also a hardball political operative who only cares about money and power. Other Clinton-era Democrats like Mark Penn are looking on in horror at what their party has become. No doubt Penn thought that the socialists had been defeated along with the Soviet Union, and now he has lived to see them become mainstream in the Democrat Party.
Carville’s plan for Democrats includes packing the court, adding 2 states, and effectively trying to tilt the playing field and he says this will “save democracy” in the same way the Inflation Reduction Act reduced inflation.
A better plan would be to throw the Democratic Socialists, who believe in defunding the police, open borders and seizing virtually all private property, out of the party since they are not actually Democrats. Adopt sensible plans around expanding healthcare, improving schools, reducing crime and balancing the budget. That would save it from the lowest ratings on record instead of further nosedive it.
Instead, worried Democrats are welcoming the Socialists. Even as cities are beginning to reject them and Chicago is on the verge of financial collapse as the mayor has an 8 per cent approval, party leaders are declaring “a big tent.” despite polling showing it is increasingly an empty tent.
If I were a Democratic operative, I would be a bit more skeptical that the party is dead or on life support. Not because the patient isn't extremely ill and in need of chemo, but because the ultimate fate of the Democrats lies in the success or failure of Trump's agenda. Congressional election victories in off-years are mostly driven by turnout among partisans, with independents usually sitting out the elections unless they are really, really angry. If Democrats are energized, Republicans a bit less excited, and Independents are angry, Democrats will do well no matter what people think about the party as a whole.
Nobody votes FOR a Congressman. Few people know WHO their Congressman is. It is all about the approval of the president and how passionate the most likely voters are. In wave elections, insane people can win. Tim Walz won his House seat in 2006, for instance, in a Republican district, because everybody hated Bush.
Republicans, though, should be very wary. Democrats ARE desperate, and desperate people do desperate things. As we have seen over the past few years already. And they are more desperate today than ever.
Nothing would surprise me.

Stain and Lenin felt the same way about the Kulaks
Bonehead has a very odd way of saving Democracy. Just so we know...what is his description of “democracy”?
They already gave the game away. They spent years talking about saving “Our Democracy”. Which is a thing that has nothing to do with the voters or the American people. It’s about keep THEM in power so that THEY can benefit. That’s “Our Democracy” and everybody needs to protect it.
But people caught on and people didn’t vote for “Our Democracy” because people saw the corruption.
Now Carville and others think they are being artful by coming up with a new term. This new term is saving “democracy”. But mind you — this has nothing to do with the voters or the American people. It’s about keep THEM in power so that THEY can benefit.
I bet no one is fooled except the old fools.
We are at war with wickedness and evil. They know they are at war against us, too many of us are asleep.
This is not a battle against flesh and blood.
They need to control the Senate, so they can get rid of the Senate.
What James can’t quite accept is the fact that their is no Democrat party as he knew it. Trump took over the Republican party and gained a majority of middle class working people and minorities behind him - they’re better off now under MAGA and they’re not going back. He tweaked, ridiculed, and mean-tweeted every democrat position and person to the point they just went nuts. The Democrat party today is Jazzy Crocket, AOC and the Squad, blue-state governors and mayors who refused to follow federal law and sue to keep the right to mutilate children, and a dwindling number of news media cheerleaders who have no one to cheer for. And it things go well, most of their heros will end up in court and hopefully, in prison.
So James, it’s over and you lost. Maybe you’ll live to accept that, or eventually enough time will pass without the mockingbird media calling you to get your “thoughts” that it will be obvious.
“Democracy” is a dog-whistle term for the left.
When they say “save our Democracy,” they really mean “keep the Marxist revolution moving.”
The Clintons politicized the FIBer’s ... although with BullS.it Barr there was NOT much that needed politicized ... Having Ashcroft in gave a cover of purity... for the Bush ticks.
And that's what the American People have resoundingly called to a halt with the election of the Greatest President in US History: Donald Trump.
Spoken like a pure pos democrat.
Democrats can’t win if they play straight.
The phrase “save our democracy” is an example of the Democrat Party embracing Orwell’s concept of New Speak.
Deliberately deceptive or contradictory language.
Carvilles democracy endorses removing legitimately elected Presidents using fake conspiracies based on fabricated intelligence. What a guy.
Democrats rule. That is it.
This is kinda ‘NOT’ Democracy.
