<p>Here's some good news for parents, teachers and anyone else who cares about the public schools: No matter who wins the Nov. 5 election, the bipartisan consensus for education reform in California should continue.</p>
<p>Gov. Gray Davis and his Republican opponent, businessman Bill Simon, agree on the core tenets behind the recent reforms: consistent standards, statewide testing and an accountability program that puts schools on the spot to improve. Where the two candidates do differ, it is mostly over detail, not principle.</p>
