[Catholic Caucus] Why Satan Hates the Brown Scapular Is the Brown Scapular simply a lucky “charm” that bestows salvation on those who wear it? While there are many “promises” to the wearers of this scapular, we must always keep in mind that the Brown Scapular does not grant someone access to eternal life no matter what kind of life they live. In fact, it soon becomes an irritant to those straying away from the Faith and is one of the first items to be taken off. The Brown Scapular is an amazing channel of graces from Heaven, but we must learn to...

Our Lady and the Scapular: The most extraordinary event in English history The Mother of God and her Divine Son appear to Saint Simon Stock in Cambridge -- 767 years ago today, in 1251: has there been any other moment in English history whose consequences have aided so many souls throughout the world achieve and keep holiness, reaching final perseverance? Men and women, made of flesh, need material reminders of the presence of God in their lives -- and what could be more profitable than the blessed physical sign that Our Lady's Mantle covers us at all times, that Her...

This year marks the 750th anniversary of the death of St Simon Stock I wonder what you were thinking when you dressed this morning. Had you already laid out your clothes for the day? Did certain expectations dictate your choices? The simple fact is that how we dress can say a lot about who we are, what we do, how seriously we take life and its tasks. I have clear memories of one Christmas, when a child, having received a soldier’s outfit as a present and I can remember to this day the sense of pride and purpose that...

The Scapular 1082. I read in a Catholic paper that those who wear the brown scapular of our Lady will not go to hell and will be released from purgatory the first Saturday after their death. Your difficulties show that this brief statement was given without the explanation with which Catholics are familiar. 1083. Now I ask you, do you believe, as a man and a priest, that a scapular has such magic power? I certainly do not believe that a scapular has any magic power. Nor does any Catholic. Nevertheless, I myself wear a brown scapular, and hope to...

I am doing some family research, undertaken with some urgency, and am trying to find the church in which my parents were married. According to the certificate of marriage issued by the church itself, it is "Church of Our Lady of the Scapular of Mt. Carmel, New York City." I used google, and came up with a lot of information about scapulars and Mt. Carmel and religious orders, but haven't found specifically this church. The "yellow pages" don't show anything, or if they do, I'm missing it. Does anyone know if this particular church still exists?
