Most salvage yards will NOT accept electric vehicles. The media is not reporting on many negative EV concepts having been compromised by the present administration and big money. This is huge news and the media is turning a blind eye. Where are they going to put these cars/batteries when they wear out. Huh???

You just can’t make this up! After allowing a China spy balloon to float across Alaska and the continental United States for the last 10 days, the US military finally shot the balloon down after its work was accomplished. Now the US military is concerned they may not reach the balloon wreckage before China can. The balloon was shot down 6 miles off the coast of Carolina. They can’t be serious, except that they are. The US military will not have a proper salvage vessel at the scene for several days. These clowns are making a mockery of the United...

As today's high inflation pushes Americans to reconsider how, when and where they shop, salvage food stores are gaining traction. Nicholas Duke, manager of Uplifting Deals in Asheville, N.C., joined "Fox & Friends" on Monday to explain how salvage food stores buy overstock from traditional retailers to then resell in their own stores. Duke said the existence of "best-by" or "sell-by" dates on items indicates to retailers when to freshen their food stock. The products, though, are still salvageable.

"After major hurricanes like Irma and Harvey, consumers looking to buy a used car need to beware of flood-damaged vehicles. It's estimated more than a half-million will hit the market in coming months.( emphasis mine) "There is a racket out there where people will buy these cars cheap from the auction, re-do them, and then try to pass them off as a reliable clean car," Toyota of Tampa Bay Service Director Gregg Willard said. "As a dealer, I'm very worried, so as a consumer, you should definitely be worried." Signs of Trouble Inside "Trust your nose," Willard said. "If you smell...

On October 18, 2016, the hacker(s) Anonymous claims that “a source inside the [Hillary] Clinton campaign has leaked an internal polling document that shows her support is gone”. The document is a report titled Salvage Program from the Benenson Strategy Group, the pollster and strategist for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign. The report looks professional and credible. It’s called Salvage Program because its goal is to “salvage” — to rescue, save, recover, restore — Hillary’s campaign, which is tanking. In the words of the report (my words are in green): “At this point Donald Trump has both momentum and enthusiasm....

NASA has apparently been stripping and reusing parts from old spacecraft, because when you have lofty goals and a limited budget, you gotta do what you gotta do. For instance, it's salvaging the four water tanks installed on the space shuttle Endeavour this week, so the agency can use them to build a new storage system for the International Space Station. Those tanks can store 300 liters in all that can last for 25 to 27 days: they're expected to help free more time for the crew to spend on their experiments. Also, according to NASA spokesperson Daniel Huot, they...

Shipwreck Could Hold Thousands of Litres of Rum • Sunken British warship the Lord Clive could hold “treasure worth millions”, including “vast stocks” of 250-year-old rum which will be recovered later this year. The wreck, which sunk off the coast of Uruguay, was discovered in 2004, but the Uruguyan government has only given permission for its recovery this year. Salvage of the ship, which was sunk by Spanish cannons in 1763, will require cranes, excavators and around 80 workers and is expected to begin within two months. The ship, which was constructed in Hull for the Royal Navy and was...

"The amazing thing is the mechanical engineering aspect," says James Evans, a physicist and science historian at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Wash. He is part of an international group working to crack the puzzle of the device's origins and purpose. Evans recently added a new twist with an analysis that suggests it dates to 205 B.C. -- as much as a century earlier than previously believed. If he's right, it is more likely that the Antikythera Mechanism was inspired by the work of the legendary Greek mathematician Archimedes. It would also mean the device was built at...

Bear with me, LI readers – I’m a little bit of a geek, so I find stories like these exciting. It might not be of interest to everyone, but I do think there’s one point about it that will resonate with all of you. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos started Bezos Expeditions (as well as the space exploration venture Blue Origin) out of his “passions for science, engineering, and exploration.” Bezos, like so many others, watched Apollo 11′s launch from his television as a child in 1969. Days prior, the mission began when five F-1 rocket engines fired together in a...

Canadian Miner Update - Holed and Breaking Up The Canadian Miner was struck by a storm where 40 foot waves broke over the grounded vessel near Scaterie Island. Reports state the vessel has a 50 foot hole on the side of the vessel near the stern and the hull has cracked in several places. The storm winds reached gusts up to 131 kilometers per hour. Waves have pushed the Canadian Miner closer to shore with the bow of the vessel now resting on the beach. Luckily, salvagers were able remove 6,000 liters of engine oil and diesel fuel before the...

(LEAD) S. Korea moves sunken ship's rear closer to coast SEOUL, April 12 (Yonhap) -- Workers moved the rear part of a sunken naval vessel closer to the coast Monday, as high wind and waves were feared to further complicate ongoing operations to salvage the warship that sank near the sea border with North Korea last month, military and private salvage company officials said. A record 370,000 TEUs of ship capacity was scrapped in 2009 – an amount equal to the cumulative capacity scrapped over the past decade – says Shipping Gazette quoting figures compiled by Alphaliner, the Paris-based consultancy agency. This is the largest ever recorded level of scrapping of capable container ships largely because the owners struggle to find employment for surplus vessels. According to figures, 200 container ships were sold for scrap in 2009, including the 17-year-old Hyundai Admiral (capacity 4651 TEUs). With this high level of scrapping, the average age of vessels demolished has dropped to 27 years, thus reversing...

MIAMI — A U.S. district judge has ruled that U.S. treasure-hunting company Odyssey Marine Exploration should return to Spain a fortune in old coins recovered from the wreck of a 19th-century Spanish warship. Judge Steven Merryday nevertheless directed that the return of the treasure to Spain be stayed until an appeals process in the case was concluded. Merryday's order backed a recommendation by a U.S. magistrate judge in June that Odyssey should hand over to the Spanish government nearly 600,000 silver and gold coins valued at some $500 million that it recovered from the wreck of the 19th-century Spanish warship...

A deadline looms for businesses to glean usable parts from hundreds of automobiles. Last summer's Cash for Clunkers program has clogged auto salvage yards with a glut of trade-ins that are too damaged to drive but too good to be sent directly to scrap. The less glamorous side of the auto industry is having trouble digesting the byproducts of the buying frenzy that put nearly 700,000 new automobiles on the nation's roads -- and took the same number off. The future of millions of usable auto parts is in limbo as a critical deadline looms this winter under the federal...
