Investigators believe the 180 cattle, collectively, may have been stolen from several ranchers.. Investigators are working to determine if nearly 200 cattle that were reported missing southwest of Montrose were stolen. The Montrose County Sheriff's Office said roughly 180 cattle, collectively, are not accounted for by a number of ranchers. The cattle are missing from the Uncompahgre Plateau, where they graze during the summer months. “You can always lose some to predators, to accidents, to poisonous weeds, things like that. But the 180 is just far more than normal," said Montrose County Sheriff Chuck Searcy. “It's hard to believe that...

Realizing an ultimatum made by MK Michael Ben-Ari (National Union) to unilaterally act against Arab sheep thieves if police continue to look the other way, a group of several dozen Jews Thursday tried to recover a herd of sheep that was stolen from Jewish shepherds in Tel-Zion. At about 2:00 A.M., a group of Arab rustlers entered the Jewish community of Tel-Zion and stole a flock of sheep worth 50 thousand dollars, smuggling them back to their own village of Qalandiya. In an conversation with Israel National News, the flock's owner said, "Last night the Arabs stole 30 sheep. Just...

It was a fluke situation. Lawrence Penner normally never leaves his grain in the back of his truck. He and his brothers, who farm together in Cola, Man., have never all been out of town at the same time. But one week in February, Mr. Penner ran short of storage space and loaded his canary seed, due to be delivered to a buyer the following week, into his truck ahead of time. He and his partners left it there a few days, unattended. When they returned, they discovered the truck and its cargo had been stolen. Whoever did it had...

A South Texas sheriff is warning ranchers to keep a closer eye on their cattle as more and more cows, bulls and calves are reported missing across the state. Karnes County Sheriff David Jalufka said cattle rustlers recently struck a Gillett area ranch in the northern tip of the county, stealing up to 15 calves and leaving 13 cows to die after blocking their access to water. Rancher Peggy Kowalik's loss totaled nearly $20,000. "It's a hell of a loss," Kowalik said Friday, adding the thieves didn't take her branded cows, but instead rounded up her younger, unmarked calves. The...
