In a July 17 story, Jim VandeHei and Mike Allen of the Washington Post had to admit, in recapping White House statements about the Valerie Plame case, that White House spokesman Scott McClellan was usually careful to disavow involvement "in any illegal leak, though his public statements clearly left an impression of a White House aloof to the affair." This is the key to understanding White House statements about the case and the reported White House role. If you read the transcripts of McClellan's briefings, it is clear that McClellan had denied a White House role in a criminal disclosure...

The non-existent Karl Rove “scandal” is like heroin for the DUmmies. They need it so badly that they can’t stand to be away from it for long. Too bad that revealing the name of a CIA employee who is NOT covert is NOT a crime. My source for that tidbit is the author of the law making it a crime to reveal the name of a COVERT CIA agent. Additionally, the law’s author specifically said that Rove broke NO law. Of course, the DUmmies could care less about the CIA. All they know is that they think this is...

PLAMEGATE UPDATE [John Podhoretz] Okay, this is getting complicated in exactly the way that attempting to study a tempest in a teapot is complicated -- because it's so small. Scooter Libby says he learned of Valerie Plame's identity from Tim Russert. Evidently, Russert told the special prosecutor he did not reveal Valerie Plame's name to Scooter Libby Is somebody lying? Maybe -- but on the other hand maybe there's a lot of weaseling going on here and some of it is Tim Russert's. Knowing as his lawyer must have that the criminally dangerous portion of the statute being invoked requires...

I once knew a guy named Henry who worked at the U.S. Department of Labor. Guess what? Karl Rove no more committed a crime than I just did by revealing that Henry was a Labor Dept. employee. The BIG FACT that is just now starting to seep in with the Liberals is that it is NOT a crime to mention that someone is a CIA employee if that person has not been covert for at least 5 years. If any of you have ever lived in the D.C. area, you will meet people all the time who will flat...

Former ambassador Joseph C. Wilson IV today accused the Bush administration of keeping an intelligence file on him and his wife, CIA employee Valerie Plame Wilson.

Wilson made the charge at a Capitol press conference with Sen. Charles Schumer ('Rat-NY). He stated that he's been told that at a March 2003 meeting held at the White House by aide to Vice President Cheney Scooter Libby, a 'work up' file on him and his family was ordered.

Did White House political adviser Karl Rove deliberately reveal the identity of an undercover CIA operative? Only two people can answer that question, and neither one is talking: Rove himself and special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald, who is investigating the question. Sooner or later, we probably will get an answer. Fitzgerald has been so aggressive in this investigation -- to the point of jailing a New York Times reporter who refused to reveal her confidential sources -- that indictments are reasonably likely. In the meantime, it's important to look beyond the immediate political spectacle in Washington -- White House spokesman Scott...

[snip] Gangel: What do you think of Karl Rove? Wilson: Oh, I think he's — I'm really very saddened by all of this. Gangel: What does your wife think of Karl Rove? Wilson: She doesn't think very much of him either. I can assure you of that. [snip] Gangel: Your critics have said that this is partisan on your part, that you are part of a Democratic attempt to discredit Iraq policy. Wilson: That's simply not true. Gangel: You are a Democrat? Wilson: I exercise my rights as a citizen of this country to participate in the selection of my...

Editor, the Tribune: From a few reports, I have heard Karl Rove is the one who is mentioned in the Time magazine reporter’s notes. If he is the one who retaliated against the CIA agent by leaking her name to the press, he should be immediately fired, arrested and prosecuted. Where is the outraged press? The press and the Republican Party repeatedly attacked and prosecuted former President Bill Clinton for lying about a consensual sex act that had no direct effect on any American, and yet the Bush administration lied to all of Americans about the reason for the Iraq...
