LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) – When Southern California’s theme parks reopen as early as April, it could be with one very significant and silent difference: no screaming on rides. The California Attractions and Parks Association (CAPA), a trade group which represents theme parks statewide, is backing a plan that would tamp down on shouting on rides, such as rollercoasters, in an effort to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus... California’s reopening guidelines calls for businesses to limit activities that can spread the virus, such as singing and shouting. That means that visitors to parks such as Disneyland, Universal Studios, Six...

The roller coaster has already broken records. It's now recognized as the tallest, fastest and longest dive coaster. Cedar Point's 18th roller coaster. Only Six Flags Magic Mountain, in Santa Clarita, California, has more roller coasters with 19.

When the two-minute, 40-second flight is done, riders will have traveled 4,164 feet, at speeds of up to 67 mph and flipped over six times. It's the longest, fastest winged coaster in the world, with the most inversions and biggest drop. Early fliers were thrilled with the perspective. “It's an experience like a bird,” said Susan Shick, of Fairview Park, a Cleveland school teacher and secretary of the American Coaster Enthusiasts. “I just love it.” Engineers from Swiss firm Bolliger & Mabillard modeled some of the $30 million coaster's key features after stunt-pilot moves, including an Immelmann roll – an...

Ever since the origin of rollercoasters mankind has been pushing the envelope to see how fast and hard a person can safely be hurtled down a track. The further you venture from a soft, comfortable ride the thrillseeker gets the more fun is to be experienced. Things have developed a whole lot since the early days of ice slides and wooden rollercoasters. Now it is more common for a coaster to have 90 degree drops, reach speeds in excess of 100mph and throw you into corners with G forces normally only experienced by fighter pilots. Here are ten of the...

The most talked-about addition at Cedar Point amusement park in Ohio isn't the supersized swing that catapults thrill seekers 125 feet into the air. It's the drop in prices — from a $5 cut in admission for adults, to cotton candy that now sells for a quarter. Just about every food item is cheaper or the same price as last year. Cedar Point hopes the moves will increase attendance after a down year in 2005. Knott's Berry Farm, owned by the same company, has made similar price reductions at the theme park near Los Angeles after a disappointing year. Six...
