Marty is a 1953 teleplay by Paddy Chayefsky. It was telecast live May 24, 1953, on The Philco Television Playhouse with Rod Steiger in the title role and Nancy Marchand, in her television debut, playing opposite him as Clara. Chayefsky's story of a decent, hard-working Bronx butcher, pining for the company of a woman in his life but despairing of ever finding true love in a relationship, was produced by Fred Coe with associate producer Gordon Duff. Was remade into a theatrical movie starring Ernest Borgnine

Another TCM alert: tonight at 8PM it's airing "Doctor Zhivago". Definitely worth seeing as Hollywood film that actually showed how terrible life was in Soviet Russia. The only thing I don't like about it is its hero cheating on his cute wife with Lara. Otherwise, a truly great film with Rod Steiger stealing the show as the opportunistic lawyer Komarovsky.

Following in the tradition of "McClintock" a couple of weeks ago, today's feature is another Shakespearean Western. Leonard Maltin calls it "Othello On The Range" and it's an apt description. Ernest Borgnine plays the Othello character, Rod Steiger's Iago, Valerie French is Desdemona and Glenn Ford is the Cassio character. Also starring Charles Bronson and Felicia Farr(Mrs. Jack Lemmon). Sidenote: I believe both Ford and Borgnine were Republicans.

By The Associated Press WATERTOWN, Wis. (AP) - Mark Hamill, best known for playing Luke Skywalker in the original "Star Wars" trilogy, has replaced actor Rod Steiger, who died this week, in a movie filmed partially in Watertown. Steiger was cast as a small-town funeral director in the independent feature "Constricted." He died Tuesday of pneumonia and kidney failure at 77. The film's director had taken Steiger off the cast list a few weeks ago because of his illness, said Nick Langholff, location manager and a Fort Atkinson native. In his place, the director chose Hamill, who originally was cast...
