At least 24 Memphis Police Department officers were injured during a large protest Wednesday night, Mayor Jim Strickland says. The violence erupted after officers of the U.S. Marshals Service shot and killed Brandon Webber, 20. The shooting occurred around 7 p.m. local time, as officers from the U.S. Marshals Service as part of the Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force tried to take a man into custody. When the officers approached the man, law enforcement officials said, he was getting into his car in the Frayser community in northern Memphis, Tenn.

At one time, it was popular for people to reload their own ammunition. In fact, at one time in American History, it was necessary. It seems like this might be a hot topic for some people so that they can get enough ammunition for target practice, etc. Obviously, those people who do not have ammunition, it would not solve their problems. But if one could buy the brass casings, the bullets, and the gunpowder -- they could make their own ammunition. Is this popular right now? Could someone hundreds of brass casings and bullets along with gunpowder, and keep themselves...

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Tuesday introduced a bill that would require background checks to be run on anyone buying explosive powder, a reaction to last week's Boston Marathon bombing. Reid introduced the bill, S. 792, for Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.), who has been out sick for much of the year. But in a press statement, Lautenberg said the Boston bombing shows that background checks are needed for explosive materials. "It defies common sense that anyone, even a terrorist, can walk into a store in America and buy explosive powders without a background check or any questions asked,"...

With ammo being difficult to find lately and selling for much higher prices when it is available, I decided to purchase some reloaded ammo (9mm) and also consider reloading my own. I have no experience doing either. So naturally, I want to ask fellow FReepers for some advice about reloaded ammo. What should I look for when examining reloaded ammo before buying and using it? Can you recommend some articles or web sites about buying reloading ammo? Can you recommend a beginner's kit I should purchase for reloading my own ammo?

JEFFERSON CITY, MO. (KMOX) – The Republican controlled Missouri House voted to put gun rights on the November ballot. The resolution would establish a constitutional right to purchase and process ammunition. It would also permit the manufacturing of ammunition. Republican Pacific Representative Paul Curtman says the bill protects the second amendment of the United States Constitution. “It creates a positive reinforcement for something that we already have, a natural right to protect our God given liberties, our right to life even.” Opponents of the bill voiced concerns about increased crime. Democratic St. Louis Representative Jamilah Nasheed says this legislation perpetuates...

New York magazine’s Frank Rich stopped by Martin Bashir’s MSNBC show to express his disappointment with President Obama, his expectation that the backlash against Rupert Murdoch in England will soon come to America and his general bewilderment with everything Sarah Palin. Bashir didn’t let Rich have all the “fun” though, as he compared the Tea Party to recalcitrant children who took control of their parents and wondered about Palin what her purpose might be if she doesn’t run for President? Rich suggested that Mitt Romney and Rick Perry have a great advantage over many other candidates in 2012, including Obama,...

Shooting sports are one of those sports that here in Texas can be year-round. Rain does not seem to slow down outdoor shooters unless there is lightning and common sense dictates the action get indoors as soon as possible. Handgunners have the best of all worlds here in Montgomery County in they can either go out FM 2854 West of Loop 336 West and shoot outdoors, under cover, at the Gum Emporium of The Conroe Shooting Center, or they can go to the Shooters Station out Highway 105 West and take advantage of their indoor range. Therefore handgunners can participate...

NEW ORLEANS – Former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin says her "Don't retreat — reload" slogan is a call for political activism, not violence. Addressing fellow conservatives at the Southern Republican Leadership Conference, Palin accused the media of twisting her words and tarnishing the reputation of the tea party movement. She told Republicans on Friday, "Don't retreat — reload, and that's not a call for violence."

Politico reported yesterday that last week was a bad week for the Tea Party movement. I think considering the passage of the Obamacare bill, the dirty tricks and warped journalism conducted by the media to demonize regular American citizens for speaking their minds, and theother horrifying news about our economic troubles, that it was actually a bad week for the country. Then there was Saturday… Ten thousand patriotic American’s gathered in the Nevada desert to take a stand for the Constitution and to tell Washington that they are not going to sit back quietly while the federal government continues it’s...

Rep. Steve Israel (D-N.Y.) doesn't appreciate a remark made by former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) that used gun imagery. Palin tweeted Tuesday about the passage of the healthcare reform bill into law: Commonsense Conservatives & lovers of America: "Don't Retreat, Instead - RELOAD!" Pls see my Facebook page. The New York Democrat responded Wednesday, ripping the comment: Reload? @SarahPalinUSA Is your choice of words inciteful or ignorant? Palin's "reload" comment came at a time when several Democratic lawmakers who voted for the healthcare bill have received personal threats to their personal safety. Palin has not condoned the incidents. House...

by J.D. Tuccille, Civil Liberties Examiner A commonly available reloading press for manufacturing ammunition at home. Hobbled by the Supreme Court decision in D.C. v. Heller, recognizing that individuals have a constitutionally protected right to keep and bear arms, gun control advocates are roaming the land with virtual lightbulbs over their heads. "Ah ha," they say. "You can have your guns, but we'll control your ammunition." Well, they're not the first to think of the idea, and they won't be the first to discover that "banning"' isn't synonymous with "eliminating." California already has a law requiring firearms to include "microstamping"...
