BATON ROUGE, Louisiana (Reuters) - Memo to disappointed women supporters of Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton: Republican John McCain wants your vote. McCain, the senator from Arizona who has wrapped up his party's White House nomination, moved on Wednesday to woo women and other Clinton backers whose disappointment over her defeat by Illinois Sen. Barack Obama could cause them to switch teams. "I would welcome any of Senator Clinton's supporters' vote," McCain told reporters in Louisiana, adding he would seek backing from people across the political spectrum.

About 8 years ago my siblings and I decided to donate the money we would normally spend on one another at Christmas to a charity of choice that would be rotated among the 4 of us each year. Seeing as how this was my year I chose a group called Operation Enduring Christmas (http://www.operationensuringchristmas.org) which allows people to donate or raise money for military families who have lost loved ones in Iraq or Afghanistan. Plenty of other organizations out there who support military families as well. I posted this to start a discussion of how other people out there choose...

COLOGNE, Germany - German-born Pope Benedict XVI on Friday became the second pope to visit a synagogue, entering to the haunting tones of a ram's horn, praying before a Holocaust memorial and lamenting a rise in anti-Semitism. "We need to show respect for one another and to love one another," Benedict said, pressing a theme of interfaith understanding that has marked his first foreign trip as pope. The hourlong stop, for which Cologne's Jews stood and applauded, was filled with significance for the 78-year-old Benedict, who grew up in Nazi Germany. He called those times "the darkest period of German...

    W. and his associates are out and about this week, merrily gabbing about the White House’s second-term agenda: social security reform at home — plus a little tort reform on the side — and a continuation of freedom-spreading efforts abroad. The talk is warranted. After all, what else is inauguration week for? We defeated Michael Moore, George Moneybags Soros, Sen. Hairspray, and Teresa’s Husband in one fell swoop. We should be celebrating. But I’m still a crusty neocon, wholly in opposition to fun, so I’ll be gloomy and rant about the next four years. It is of the utmost significance...

WASHINGTON (Talon News) -- The White House is expecting Senate Democrats to be more cooperative when the new session begins in January, but recent statements by their incoming leader suggest otherwise. President George W. Bush made a point of reaching out to members of the body's minority in the days following the elections, but it doesn't appear they are inclined to reach back. On Monday, Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-ND) announced the formation of a committee to investigate the Bush administration. Claiming that the Republican majority has failed to properly perform its oversight duties...
