About 8 years ago my siblings and I decided to donate the money we would normally spend on one another at Christmas to a charity of choice that would be rotated among the 4 of us each year. Seeing as how this was my year I chose a group called Operation Enduring Christmas (http://www.operationensuringchristmas.org) which allows people to donate or raise money for military families who have lost loved ones in Iraq or Afghanistan. Plenty of other organizations out there who support military families as well. I posted this to start a discussion of how other people out there choose to give during the holidays. Already we are being bombarded with pre-Christmas sales, bad music, store displays and the like that do nothing to stir any good feelings.

We know two Marines in Fallujah now, so we'll send to them directly, but in the past when we didn't know anyone on active duty in Iraq/Afghanistan, we gave to Operation AC.

Actually I just like hearing about what other people do.
I suggest that everyone contact a local USO chapter- most have holiday fund raising drives or gift programs.
I have a cheap ass sister who claims to do this.(but it's just her way of not having to buy anyone but her spoiled kid more stuff and yet appear to be gracious and giving)

No offense to anybody who believes or practices differently, but I always try to keep this in mind:
Matthew 6:3-4, "But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth; that thy alms may be in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly."
I posted this for people to talk about giving. Maybe someone sees something from another poster and decides to give, maybe it reaffirms that other people out there care. How much doesn't matter.
