Top congressional Democrats told President Trump on Friday that using the new House Intelligence Committee memo as a pretext to fire Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and therefore halt the Russia investigation would spark a “constitutional crisis.” Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi of California said in a letter they are “alarmed” at reports that Trump may use the memo “as a pretext” to fire Rosenstein “in an effort to corruptly influence or impede” special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation. “We write to inform you that we would consider such an unwarranted act as...

...Rosenstein made his pitch in the December [2017] meeting with the President, asking for White House backing as the Justice Department sought to deny access to sensitive documents demanded by Nunes, who has spent months pursuing claims of surveillance abuses by the FBI and the Justice Department against the Trump campaign. There was no decision by the President at the meeting, the sources told CNN. White House chief of staff John Kelly later notified the Justice Department that the President would not help block access to the documents.

Rod J. Rosenstein’s tenure as deputy attorney general and the top Justice Department official overseeing the Russia investigation appears to be in peril after President Trump refused to say Friday whether he had confidence in him. After Trump authorized release of a controversial memo on FBI surveillance practices by House Intelligence Committee Republicans, he was asked by a reporter whether he was more likely to fire Rosenstein and whether he had confidence in the 27-year-veteran of the Justice Department who oversees its day-to-day operations and special counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s investigation. “You figure that one out,” Trump replied. The...

So Sessions recuses himself for having an innocuous and indirect contact with a Russian. But Rosenstein is hired to be his number two and oversee Mueller based on a FISA application that he signed knowing it was BS and was the basis for Trump-Russia collusion nonsense Mueller was investigating. Rosenstein should be sent to jail for a long, long, time.
