Beware when The Washington Post calls someone a “moderate.” It probably means they’re a liberal ranter. In Sunday’s newspaper, a book review by Post writer Michael Rosenwald of a book called Arms: The Culture and Credo of the Gun by a Canadian journalist named A. J. Somerset who loathes American gun culture. It's titled "Wisdom of a Gun-Owning Moderate." For example: “The color white plays an important role in this history: Somerset writes that ‘race war has long been the drunken uncle of American gun culture.’” He claims “Guns are all about keeping black people down”. During their debate this morning, David Gregory presented Colorado’s Senate candidates — incumbent Democrat Michael Bennet and Republican Ken Buck — with a soon-to-be released study by a handful of left-wing groups and the NAACP that tries to tar the Tea Party as a racist movement. Buck, naturally, rejected the study out of hand, and said he had not seen any of that in the 800 Colorado events he had attentded. Bennet’s reaction was interesting because it was almost identical. Why does everyone insist on the GOP reaching out to Hispanic and black voters? Sure, non Hispanic whites will be the minority in the U.S. (though by far the LARGEST minority) in the 2040-2050 time frame. But there are a lot of presidential elections between now and then. If the GOP increased its take of white votes from 58% (2004) or 55% (2008) to 70% or better, then it could win virtually any election with little minority support.
