Publix is backing down in a standoff with survivors of this year's mass shooting at a Parkland, Florida high school, saying it has suspended political contributions. The regional supermarket chain, which is based in Florida, announced its decision amid a "die-in" at several Publix stores in the state to protest the supermarket chain's financial support for a gubernatorial candidate who opposes gun control. Publix said Friday in a statement that it will "suspend corporate-funded political contributions as we reevaluate our giving processes."

Staring down the prospect of a public relations crisis — boycott threats and "die-in" protests included — over its donations to Republican gubernatorial hopeful Adam Putnam, Publix said Friday it has halted all corporate political contributions. The supermarket giant made the announcement moments before a "die-in" protest planned by David Hogg, a vocal Parkland school shooting survivor and gun control activist. Despite the news, Hogg and dozens of protestors sprawled on the floor of a Coral Springs Publix for 12 minutes clutching sunflowers and signs that read "No NRA Money." Hogg and other students began their influential movement for gun...

David Hogg is trying to shake down Publix. The public face of the gun control movement demanded $1 million Thursday from the Florida-based grocery chain in a tweet, just one day after calling for a “die-in” protest at its stores. Publix is being targeted by Mr. Hogg for its support of Adam Putnam, a Republican gubernatorial candidate who is now the state’s agricultural commissioner. The Tampa Bay Times reported earlier this week that Publix had given $670,000 during the last three years to Putnam campaigns. Mr. Hogg not only sought atonement money from the grocery chain in Thursday’s tweet, he...

One of the most visible Parkland activists is calling for a "die-in" at Publix supermarkets Friday to protest its donations to Florida gubernatorial candidate Adam Putnam, whose pro-gun stance gets him a top rating from the National Rifle Association. David Hogg, who helped galvanize the "March for Our Lives" movement after the massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, told his 799,000 Twitter followers on Wednesday they should "die in" at Publix stores. It entails lying on the ground inside supermarkets for 12 minutes at 4 p.m. Friday.

Publix has been Florida’s favorite grocery chain for decades — but some shoppers are turning their backs on the store after learning it donated more than half a million dollars to gubernatorial candidate Adam Putnam. A handful of state advocacy groups have gone to social media — Twitter in particular — urging shoppers to "#BoycottPublix" this Memorial Day weekend. Some people have decided to boycott the store indefinitely, or until it withdraws $670,000 it has given to Putnam, a longtime Republican politician who drew ire after he called himself "a proud NRA sellout" and opposed Florida’s new, stricter gun purchasing...

Most people believe Summa Cum Laude is an honor ... Publix grocery store believes it's obscene. Case in point ... this cake. A woman in South Carolina ordered the tasty treat online to celebrate her son graduating from his homeschool program with a 4.79 GPA ... earning Summa Cum Laude honors. But, when she sent a friend to pick up the cake, the word "Cum" was edited out -- an apparent violation of the grocery store's obscenity policy!!!! "My son was humiliated," the woman posted on her Facebook page ... "I seriously couldn't make this crap up!!!" "How utterly ridiculous...

WEST ASHLEY, S.C. (WCIV) — The signs of a graduation party are still left around the house of the Koscinski family. Jacob graduated Saturday with the highest honors from a Christian-based home-schooling program. So, his mom ordered a cake. "He did not know we were getting a cake because he's not a big cake eater. So we were all standing there waiting to see it and when we opened it, it was a huge shock to all of us," said Cara Koscinski. She explained how she ordered the 3/4 inch sheet cake online through Publix. But when she requested the...

I've been using Samsung Pay on my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge and I really like it. No real issues until just a couple of days ago when I tried to use it at a Publix store. It didn't work even though I held the phone right over the same spot of the card reader that I normally do. I tried it again and again it didn't work so I ended up pulling out my Debit card and used that. Okay, I figured that maybe there was something wrong with that particular card reader. However, this morning I went to a...

A Commerce woman has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Publix, claiming the grocery chain was at fault when her husband fell into a deep fryer, leading to his 2015 death. Mansur Blount was a vent hood technician. Part of his job was to clean vent hoods at client businesses, including a Publix location in Dacula, where he was doing that work on June 25, 2015, according to the lawsuit. A Publix spokeswoman said it is the company’s policy not to comment on open lawsuits.

This is stunningly interesting and hopefully will be picked up by MSM and congressional investigators. Sometimes when a person is deep inside an echo-chamber of like-minded ideologues, they might not realize what they’re saying is rather revealing to those on the outside. That’s the set up for former Obama administration official Evelyn Farkas (Deputy Asst. Secretary of Defense) appearing on MSNBC and admitting first hand knowledge the Obama administration spied on candidate and president-elect Donald Trump’s transition team to gather “intelligence” for political use. It would appear Ms. Farkas was so caught up in the discussion, she didn’t quite realize...

Commerce Secretary Wilbur “Wolverine” Ross put the trade world on notice today when he announced a staggering $1.19 billion penalty on Chinese company ZTE for violating U.S. sanctions and selling electronics to Iran and North Korea. China’s ZTE has agreed to pay the United States the fine. Remember, in China all private businesses are politically attached to the central government.

An ongoing lawsuit has pried loose new records linked to a family of Sarasota Saudis who left home in a hurry just before 9/11. It was Halloween night, 2001. The horrors of 9/11 were still fresh on the the minds of Americans. At a time when everyone was on edge, the sight of a man disposing documents in a dumpster behind a Bradenton storage facility aroused suspicion. Summoned to the scene, Manatee County sheriff’s deputies confronted the man, who had a Tunisian passport. According to FBI records, authorities searched the dumpster and found “a self-printed manual on terrorism and Jihad,...
