About 400 people marched in downtown Houston today in support of immigrant rights, part of a nationwide Labor Day effort in advance of this month's congressional debate on immigration legislation. Jesse Jackson is planning a march this spring to protest post-hurricane policies he fears will marginalize the black community, the civil rights leader said Monday as he toured one of the city's hardest-hit areas. SEATTLE - More than 5,000 people marched from Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood to Westlake Center downtown Sunday, protesting the Bush administration's policy toward Iraq. Congressman Jim McDermott addressed the crowd, telling protesters that Bush is out for war. In a short speech, the Seattle Democrat didn't talk about his recent trip to Baghdad, for which he was heavily criticized by some conservatives. I went to the Jim McDermott Town Hall Meeting in Seattle today. A handful of FReepers were there with some excellent signs ("Go back to Bagdhad").
