Over a week ago, I pointed out the possibility of a change in China’s future plans in comment #19,994. In that comment I suggested that China might be increasing its interest in Russian Siberian territory that once belonged to China. I have now found links actively discussing this very possibility. The first link below discusses Putin’s difficulties with territory east of the Urals. This 14 minute video explains the shift in Siberian territories over the decades. It points out that Putin’s 2 Chechen wars were conducted in part to frighten Siberia’s various territories away from any ideas of independence. However the failure of Putin’s army in Ukraine has changed viewpoints. There are powerful oligarchs that might wish to work independently with some of these territories. Also there is a greater opportunity for these communities to look to China for some independent support. They might even get help from China in the way Ukraine looks to NATO for support. At any rate, a number of new and interesting ideas to explore.

This 19 minute video below goes into considerable detail regarding China’s oil negotiations for a Siberia #2 pipeline. The narrator suggests that if China was serious about getting oil this way, they would have signed this agreement 3 years ago. In fact it is suggested China has no intention of following through, but rather thinks it will be able to obtain much more power in this whole situation, based on the discussion in the previous link above. It is also suggested that currently China is too dependent on world oil movement to engage in a war on Taiwan, but may be planning to change that whole dynamic as explained in the video.
