DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — U.S. President Donald Trump has signed an executive order vowing to use all measures including U.S. military action to defend the energy-rich nation of Qatar — though it remains unclear just what weight the pledge will carry.
The text of the order, available Wednesday on the White House’s website but dated Monday, appears to be another measure by Trump to assure the Qataris following Israel’s surprise attack on the country targeting Hamas leaders as they weighed accepting a ceasefire with Israel over the war in the Gaza Strip.
The order cites the two countries’ “close cooperation” and “shared interest,” vowing to “guarantee the security and territorial integrity of the state of Qatar against external attack.”
“The United States shall regard any armed attack on the territory, sovereignty or critical infrastructure of the state of Qatar as a threat to the peace and security of the United States,” the order says.
“In the event of such an attack, the United States shall take all lawful and appropriate measures — including diplomatic, economic, and, if necessary, military — to defend the interests of the United States and of the state of Qatar and to restore peace and stability.”
Qatar’s Foreign Ministry described the U.S. pledge as “an important step in strengthening the two countries’ close defense partnership.” The Qatari-funded Al Jazeera satellite news network declared: “New Trump executive order guarantees Qatar security after Israeli attack.”

If not … well … kiss your sweet allah goodbye.
wow, does qatar have chips foundry? or did they open a qatar semiconductor factory?
So is Trump saying he would attack Israel? I am confused.
Qatar is aligned with Turkey (Türkiye) 2,000 or more Turkish soldiers on its soil.
Turkey very friendly to Trump who is in bed with Netanyahu on Bibi’s main goal for the coming year dealing with Iran.
I think this is about protection from Iranian attack when the final offensive to take out Iran is launched.
“Netanyahu says upcoming year will be a time of struggle to destroy Iranian axis”
“New Trump executive order guarantees Qatar security...”
The U.S. has pledged up to $20 billion in financial support to stabilize Argentina’s economy and currency.”
What is in it for the US?
Not to worry, come Taco Tuesday.
I think it’s more of a general promise made to give Qatar some assurance that, as long as Qatar gets onboard with the peace deal, Trump will not allow things to get out of hand between them and Israel.
The truth is that, aside from this one incident, Israel has never attacked Qatar before, and has no intention or need to do so in the foreseeable future. This attack was a limited strike targeting Hamas officials that led to the collateral casualty of one Qatari. It represents more of an embarrassment to Qatar than anything else, and with a Gaza peace deal, Israel has no need for any further military operation against Qatar or inside its borders.
Qatar is far enough away from Israel that there’s no realistic threat of invasion from Israel. Their greatest vulnerability is from targeted air strikes from Israel, such as the one that just occurred. But again, with a peace deal, there’s no real reason for Israel to carry out any further strikes.
I view POTUS’s promise as more of a gesture on his part to offer Qatar a way to save face. Netanyahu likely understands it as such. Trump basically offered Qatar protection from an eventuality that was extremely unlikely to happen in the first place.

Qatar holds the key to whether any “deal” in the middle east will happens because what is being gauged here is the word of the US and the ability of the US to restrain an “ally(Israel)” who bombed a country that Israel had signed an agreement not to and since Israels word alone wasn’t good enough for Qatar the USA stepped in and said “we’ll make sure that doesn’t happen”.
So then Israel bombs them anyway, which makes an security agreement the US want to put it’s paw print on suspect on it’s face. Things like this have a way of getting out of hand as countries review their agreements with the USA and maybe decide the USA can’t or won’t enforce the security agreements it makes.
Qatar is a quack nation. We have a military base there. They have hosted Hamas leaders and donated billions to them in Gaza. They host Al-Jazeera.

Great. Now ask the Qataris to stop funding anti-fracking propaganda.
Argentina is full of strategic minerals, including rare earths.
““The United States shall regard any armed attack on the territory, sovereignty or critical infrastructure of the state of Qatar as a threat to the peace and security of the United States,” the order says.”
And how ‘bout the other way ‘round? Will Qatar do the same for us? I mean, they’ve played both ends of the stick for Years.
Trump often drew lines of contrasts with his Republican primary opponents. In January 2024, at a New Hampshire rally, he referred to former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, who was U.N. ambassador during Trump’s first term, as a “warmonger” whose mentality on foreign policy is, “Let’s kill people all over the place and let’s make a lot of money for those people that make the messes.”
During a Jan. 6, 2024, rally before the Iowa caucuses, Trump told supporters that returning him to the White House would allow the country to “turn the page forever on those foolish, stupid days of never-ending wars. They never ended.”
Rolling out his foreign policy priorities during that campaign — something Trump’s orbit called “ Agenda 47 ” — he posted a video online in which he talked of how he was “the only president in generations who didn’t start a war.”
In that video, Trump called himself “the only president who rejected the catastrophic advice of many of Washington’s Generals, bureaucrats, and the so-called diplomats who only know how to get us into conflict, but they don’t know how to get us out.”

I thought our government was shut down.
Sometimes we are with Israel, sometimes we are against them?

So is the USA, simply dig them up!
They still need to be refined. Should the USA build the infrastructure in an insecure shithole, where it will be handed over to the Chinese?
Dig, baby dig, and do it here!
We will defend Qatar against any invader. Except Israel. Or the Saudis. Or us.
OK, mainly we promise to defend them against Iran. As long as they quit funding troublemakers.

Since we use Qatar as a FOB for a significant segment of our military, we have an interest in stability there. That’s what’s in it for the US.
Thank you
