My most accurate rifle is my Mossberg 100ATR 30-06. It is also my cheapest long rifle. I went for the 30-06 because of the cost of the ammo. I also like the Rem 700 in the 7mm mag caliber because of it’s power. The 100ATR is available in many different calibers. So if you are in the market for long rifle I would take a look at them.

I highly recommend the .380 for long range. Not the 308. I’m talking 1000 meters.

I must be missing something. I like my .380, but at 1000 meters, I probably couldn't hit a drive-in movie screen, lol.

Enough cash to pay for essentials for at least a month. Also useful if there’s a disaster and you need to run, and the credit systems are down. We’ve been in ice storms where all the antennas for credit/debit card verification were down, but I could still buy milk, diapers and wipes with a $20.
At least one other financial institution like a credit union from which you can pay bills, withdraw cash, even if the main one you work with is breached or frozen your account. We had to rely on this when Bank of America saw several online bill pays and transactions I did in one sit down session as suspicious and froze everything - not even fraud, but now locked out until they were happy we proved that it wasn’t.
Several weeks of food and water in case services are disrupted, whether hack attack or major snowstorm.
All of the account and financial information printed off in a secure place, so that you find yourself unable to access anything on a second computer in case the first is hit by malware or ransomware.
Check all accounts at least weekly for anything unusual, usually reconcile after every update for purchases/sales.
Don’t bother with Lifelock or credit monitoring, they take too long to find anything compared to my vigilance. I’ve reported suspicious stuff the day it was pending and had to wait for the bank to open to talk to someone to deal with it.

The problem is that the longer 30-06 cartridge did not cycle well in fully automatic rifles.

The .308 is essentially a 30-06 with a shorter case that works reliably in full-auto firearms.

While I understand the rationale for necking it down, I always wished the M-14 had been essentially a detachable-magazine M-1 Garand, retaining the .30-06: basically, a sleek, light successor to the BAR.

I once had a whole bunch of Swedish Mausers but am down to one. Still have a bit of ammo tho.

Was thinking the Brits shot .308’s out of their planes. Maybe they used the .303 (standard Lee-Enfield round) instead.

I don't ever have to take a shot out beyond 200 yards. Heck, the elk I killed in Colorado was only about 125. So, the .308 is completely adequate for me.

If for some reason I felt obligated to take a shot at out to 400 yards, and I had practiced such shots, AND I was using a rangefinder, I would still trust the cartridge to get the job done provided I could properly place the bullet.

Beyond that, forget it. I can get closer, or go home.

I think mine was never shot except for test firing at the factory.

I believe it was not snipers, but heavy Russian machine guns similar to our M2 .50 caliber, effective out to two miles or so. Snipers would be under fire well before they could get in range. Particularly if they only had the pipsqueak 5.56.

Some reports of foreign snipers, but doubt they have anything out ranging our sniper gear.

They didn’t have .308 back then. You’re thinking of 30-06, a very similar cartridge with more case capacity.

The complete frustration of trying to organize like minded people into action of even the smallest consequence is unbelievably difficult.

And if, on the off chance you are able to do so, then comes the paranoia of being invaded by the feds. Lol. The obstacles are many, and frightening, which is why most enjoy the status quo. Get up, go to work, get that paycheck, go home, pay the bills, watch the game. Rinse & repeat.
