The national news noted today that the United States Senate voted overwhelmingly to convict and remove from office the impeached Louisiana federal judge G. Thomas Porteous for four counts dealing with his corruption on the bench. What got little to no attention was the fact that Porteous, a Catholic, was the judge who in 1999, struck down Louisiana's ban on the grisly procedure known as partial birth abortion, calling it a "back door effort" to limit a woman's constitutional right to have an abortion.
