NEW YORK — November 2 is not here yet, but polling problems have begun. From possibly malfunctioning ballot gear to potential fraud, the 2010 mid-term vote is marred even before Election Day has dawned. •Like jurors who deliberate before a trial concludes, some Nevadans who have tried voting early for Republican Senate nominee Sharron Angle instead have seen Democrat Harry Reid’s name appear on their electronic voting machines. Some voters have complained about this apparent glitch, but how many others unwittingly have miscast their ballots? Intriguingly, these machines are maintained in Las Vegas by members of the Service Employees International...

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Three poll workers accused of casting ballots in the name of dead voters were among six people indicted on charges of violating election laws in a state Senate race, a prosecutor announced Wednesday. Prosecutor Bill Gibbons said his investigation found no evidence of a widespread conspiracy to throw the election to either candidate. Democrat Ophelia Ford was certified the winner over Republican Terry Roland by 13 votes last September. The state Senate overturned the election this year amid allegations of irregularities. "There was an effort on the part of certain individuals ... to cast some illegal votes...

HARRISBURG-- A bill that would require Pennsylvania voters to show ... identification at the polls or be forced to cast a provisional ballot has passed the state Senate. The ... bill was approved ... 29-21, and sent to the House, which has already approved a measure with similar requirements. However, a spokeswoman for Gov. Rendell and an ACLU official criticized it as putting up obstacles for voters. "The governor is concerned that identification requirements may discourage people from voting and eventually disenfranchise people," said Rendell's press secretary. If [it] becomes law, the requirements would be in force for the 2006...

I just got back from my shift as a poll watcher in the predomiantly black area here is SC. What I saw was poll workers not asking if the adress was the same as the id. The biggest thing I saw was that the poll workers were hovering over voters. If some voter acted a bit clueless, well then the poll worker was right in there with the voter and the electronic vote machine. In several instances their hands were in the machine, who knows pushing what. So much for pretending to act impartial or standoffish. I brought this to...

...Estimates are that turnout could reach 120 million -- 14 million more than last time... (from the Chronic ill) ...500,000 poll workers short... (from the ABC article) Saw this AP/ABC piece earlier today and wondered if it was another one of those "exagerations". The AP/ABC story says we will be short 500,000 poll workers across the U.S. this year. They claim the number of poll workers is about the same as it was four years ago, around 1.4 million, and that they really need about 2 million this year to get the job done. The San Francisco Chonicles' projection of...

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The North Carolina Republican Party said it has received reports that some poll workers are trying to persuade Mecklenburg County voters to vote Democrat. David Turner said it happened to him when he went to cast his early vote at the University City Library. When a poll worker told him how to cast his vote, "she reached over and literally pointed her finger to the Kerry/Edwards ticket,"Turner said Tuesday.

POSTED: 9:07 pm EDT October 24, 2004 UPDATED: 10:54 am EDT October 25, 2004 ORLANDO, Fla. -- There's outrage in Central Florida over early voting, and things are so bad in Orange County that Elections Supervisor Bill Cowles said he may move the early voting sites. The parking lot at the Alafaya Branch Library was so full that voters parked on the grass, and at least 100 people were lined up out the door to cast their vote, WESH NewsChannel 2 reported. What usually inspires such a crowd? Flu shots? Concert tickets? "What do you think about this? I think...

Workers enforce election rules, clear up confusion People who staff Election Day polls work on the front lines of democracy. That's where all the values, visions and philosophies of the nation's founders meet the real world. They make sure the election process runs smoothly, the voters are free of intimidation and the ballot box remains outside the sphere of politics. Their kind, however, might soon become endangered. Most of the workers who are able and willing to commit to the daylong election and extra hours of training are elderly or retired. As those workers grow older and step aside, party...

MISSOURI CITY -- Authorities are looking into allegations that several election judges in Fort Bend County illegally gave away lists of people who had voted in Tuesday's primary runoffs. Precinct 2 Constable Ruben Davis said he received a tip Tuesday morning that someone was entering polling places and asking election judges for the lists. It is a Class C misdemeanor under Texas election laws for an election worker to reveal the names of those who have or have not voted. "When I first heard about this I laughed because I didn't think this could happen," Davis said Wednesday. "I'm not...
