Neuromuscular training reduces the onset of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN), according to a study. Fiona Streckmann, Ph.D. and colleagues examined whether sensorimotor training (SMT) and whole-body vibration (WBV) training reduce symptoms and decrease onset of CIPN among patients undergoing treatment with oxaliplatin or vinca alkaloids. A total of 158 patients were randomly assigned into three groups: SMT (55 patients), WBV (53 patients), and treatment as usual (TAU; 50 patients). The researchers found that the incidence of CIPN was significantly lower in SMT and WBV groups compared with TAU (30.0 and 41.2 percent, respectively, versus 70.6 percent) in intention-to-treat analysis. The...
  • Over-the-counter supplement found to improve walking for peripheral artery disease patients (Nicotinamide riboside)

The over-the-counter supplement nicotinamide riboside, a form of vitamin B3, increased the walking endurance of patients with peripheral artery disease, a chronic leg condition for which there are few effective treatments. In a preliminary, randomized, double-blind clinical trial, patients who took nicotinamide riboside daily for six months increased their timed walking distance by more than 57 feet, compared to participants who took a placebo. As expected, walking speed declined in those who took a placebo, because peripheral artery disease causes progressive declines in walking performance. The scientists recruited 90 people with an average age of 71 who had peripheral artery...
  • New research suggests a simple, inexpensive option for reducing a major chemotherapy side effect (Vitamin D before chemo)

New research suggests that patients who have insufficient levels of vitamin D before starting paclitaxel treatment are more likely to experience peripheral neuropathy. According to an analysis of 1,191 patients with early-stage breast cancer—using data collected in the SWOG S0221 study—20.7% of patients with vitamin D deficiency experienced at least a grade 3 level of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN), compared to 14.2% of those with sufficient vitamin D levels. The researchers also found that inducing vitamin D deficiency in an accompanying mice model study caused neurotoxicity-like symptoms. "These results suggest that vitamin D supplementation in patients with lower levels of...
  • Taxane-induced peripheral neuropathy in breast cancer: Frequent, clinically significant, and worse with paclitaxel (Choose docetaxel, instead)

    06/03/2023 6:36:07 PM PDT · by ConservativeMind · 5 replies
Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN)—nerve pain, tingling, or numbness in the hands or feet—is a common side effect of certain cancer treatments, including two drugs frequently used to treat cancer—the taxanes paclitaxel and docetaxel. Initial results from a large study that tracked CIPN in more than 1,100 patients treated for breast cancer with a taxane show a pattern of clinically meaningful, persistent sensory and motor symptoms, with patients experiencing more severe symptoms with paclitaxel than with docetaxel. Michael J. Fisch, MD, said "These results are highly relevant because taxanes such as paclitaxel and docetaxel are integral to our treatment of breast...

Stephanie Gard was recently injected with Pfizer and just two days later, she was rushed to hospital and diagnosed with Peripheral Neuropathy, which has compromised her brain and nerve function leaving Stephanie unable to feel her legs from the knees down, and unable to walk. She has also been diagnosed with Pericarditis which is affecting her heart. Steph will remain in hospital, working through her treatments to help her walk and function again. She is not the first equestrian athlete injured by the injection… Stephanie Gard: 3rd Equestrian Athlete Severely Injured After Pfizer Vaccine. Stephanie was rushed to the ER...

I am posting this important and breaking news ahead of Sacramento TV stations and The Sacramento Bee. The California Resources Agency this evening in Clarksburg, California held a meeting in which they presented their plans to "save" the vital agricultural heartland of California's Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta region. Option four of the presentation (which can be found here: http://baydeltaoffice.water.ca.gov/sdb/bdcp/bdcp_draft_scoping_meeting.pdf ) includes a PERIPHERAL CANAL starting south of Freeport in Scribner Bend and following the exact route of the proposed 1982 Peripheral Canal to the pumping stations of Clifton Court Forebay. But that's not all. Option four as presented this evening also...
