The German government has criticized the country’s biggest Islamic association for refusing to take part in a Muslim “peace march” against terrorism Saturday. The Turkish-Islamic Union said Wednesday that the demonstration in Cologne would send a wrong signal by suggesting international terrorism is mainly a Muslim problem. The union, known by its acronym DITIB, also said Muslims observing the Ramadan-month fast couldn’t be expected to march for hours in the summer sun. …

North Korea on Friday endorsed a march by the feminist activist Gloria Steinem across the heavily fortified demilitarized zone (DMZ) that separates it from South Korea. The Associated Press reported that Steinem plans to lead an all-female march called Women Cross DMZ. Organizers now hope South Korea will also approve the journey, tentatively scheduled for May 24. [Snip] Ahn and the other organizers are using the walk to call on President Obama and the U.N. for a formal peace treaty ending the Korean War. That conflict ended in relative stalemate after an armistice in 1953.

March 24, 2006 San Francisco, California Antiwar protest has always been my first love, and that's what I did this week on the third anniversary of America's fascist invasion of Iraq. Scooter and I joined about a zillion other patriots in San Francisco to protest the war, Bush, capitalism, Israel, heterosexuals, fur, Christianity, SUVs, marijuana laws, meat, oil companies, Wal-Mart, and pretty much America in general. This year, I wanted to really stand out and make a statement. I put Scooter in charge of creating outfits that would guarantee us front page coverage and rally our fellow activists. What he...

Three weeks after the United States started to drop bombs on Afghanistan, a wide coalition of groups marched through central New York beating drums and shouting: "You say 'Bomb', we say 'No'. The racist war has got to go." "Our grief is not a cry for war," read one banner. You couldn't print what I think about them. I wonder how many people they know who are dead, who are buried over there On a bitterly cold October afternoon, they only numbered around 1,000, but espoused causes from Palestine to the US Green Party, anarchy to Yugoslavia, black civil rights ...

It's been quite a day for Bay Area FReepers and friends! There's a lot to cover, but I'm gonna keep it brief and just get the ball rolling for comments and input. The big news is that we had our largest counter-protest yet! We did a head-count at the peak of the protest and we ended up counting close to 60 people! Keep in mind, two rallies ago we had about 7 people and last time, we had 15. So we've come a long way! It looks like all the extra media outreach we did really paid off. Most of...

The similarity between the Saturday's rally and the Not in our Name rally last October in Central Park is also evident, the sponsorship the same. These people are Stalinoids. Stalinoids, yes, the loony Left, no doubt, but what else is left of the Left? (The NYTimes characterized these people as "mainstream." This proves only that Executive Editor Howell Raines--who has never publicly released his SAT scores--has confused main stream with the creek navigable without a paddle.) Is there anything that unites the marchers of the Left except their hatred of the decency and prosperity of America? ...More

I had planned to devote this Conning Tower to a declaration of Abuse Hillary Week, an appropriate response to her putrid performance at Trinity Baptist Church in the Bronx on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. It'll wait, that declaration. You can start without me, if you want. You might want to read the account of that woeful event in the New York Sun. I'll catch up as soon as I can. The text for today is the Peace March on the Mall in Washington, DC last Saturday. I can tell you I doubted that it would attract a huge crowd....

"Peace march" whitewash. Though Saturday's anti-war with Iraq "peace" march in Washington, DC was organized by a far-left group, had a bunch of zany leftist outfits as sponsors, featured some far out rhetoric from the stage which belied the notion that the organizers simply want a peaceful solution, and ended with a march to the Washington Navy Yard to demand access to U.S. "weapons of mass destruction," as if the U.S. and Iraqi possession of them is equivalent, major media outlets, both print and broadcast, ignored such realities which might have reduced empathy for the cause. Instead, the networks painted...
