A Canadian man has died after he was pulled into a wood chipper in the middle of a suburban street. Daniel Vanheyst, 22, had been removing trees in Oshawa, near Toronto, on Wednesday morning when the tragic accident unfolded. A traumatized resident told the Toronto Sun that he was filming the crew disposing of tree branches at the exact moment Vanheyst got caught up in the chipper. “I saw his feet leave the ground. It was that quick,” the unnamed man said.

Full Title: Could Elon Musk save the jobs of GM workers? Tesla founder 'would be interested' in taking over General Motors' idled factories Elon Musk is eyeing General Motors' once-occupied plants. The billionaire tech mogul said it's 'possible that [Tesla] would be open' to taking over automakers' old plants, such as the five factories closed by GM last month. The comments came during Musk's wide-ranging interview with CBS' '60 Minutes.' GM CEO Mary Barra announced in November that the car manufacturer would close five factories in North America and lay off some 14,700 workers as a result. Musk indicated that...

Amid flagging sales, General Motors confirmed on Monday that it will no longer make the plug-in hybrid Chevy Volt, ceasing production on March 1st, 2019. The news comes as part of a wider plan by GM to slash car production in North America and halt production of several low-selling brands. Trading on GM shares was briefly halted on the stock exchange early on Monday in anticipation of “major operational changes,” according to CNBC. GM plans to “unallocate” three assembly plants — in Oshawa, Ontario; Detroit, Michigan; and Warren, Ohio — putting the future of those plants in doubt, Reuters reports....

DETROIT (AP) — General Motors will lay off up to 14,000 factory and white-collar workers in North America and put five plants up for possible closure as it restructures to cut costs and focus more on autonomous and electric vehicles. The reduction includes 8,100 white-collar workers, some of whom will take buyouts and others who will be laid off. Some U.S. factory workers could transfer to truck or SUV factories that are increasing production.

WASHINGTON—High-stakes trade negotiations between Canada and the U.S. were dramatically upended on Friday morning by inflammatory secret remarks from President Donald Trump, after the remarks were obtained by the Toronto Star. In remarks Trump wanted to be “off the record,” Trump told Bloomberg News reporters on Thursday, according to a source, that he is not making any compromises at all in the talks with Canada — but that he cannot say this publicly because “it’s going to be so insulting they’re not going to be able to make a deal.” In a remark he did not want published, U.S. President...

TORONTO – Dozens of people from Toronto, Oshawa, Peterborough, and surrounding areas reported seeing a bright fireball in the sky Sunday afternoon followed by a loud sonic boom. Twitter soon exploded with several accounts of the event. The American Meteor Society received several reports from Toronto, Ajax, Caledon, Port Perry, and Richmond Hill. “I have watched meteor showers before, but I have never seen anything like this in my entire life. My first thought was that it was a jet on fire and blowing up, but I had time while watching it to decide it must be a meteor,” wrote...

TORONTO -- Test results on a man who died at an Oshawa hospital early this month show evidence he may have been infected with SARS. But officials said yesterday it was too soon to suggest SARS had spread to another hospital in the region because testing of specimens produced conflicting findings. If it turns out this is a case of severe acute respiratory syndrome, it will raise many questions about how the man contracted the disease. He was known to have been in close proximity to two SARS patients at the hospital, but died too soon after contact for them...
