A Canadian man has died after he was pulled into a wood chipper in the middle of a suburban street.
Daniel Vanheyst, 22, had been removing trees in Oshawa, near Toronto, on Wednesday morning when the tragic accident unfolded.
A traumatized resident told the Toronto Sun that he was filming the crew disposing of tree branches at the exact moment Vanheyst got caught up in the chipper.
“I saw his feet leave the ground. It was that quick,” the unnamed man said.

OMG that’s so terrible!
Such a young man too. Condolances to the ones that loved him. This hurts my heart.
“It wasn’t a good scene for the young boys,” the resident added.
A bit of an understatement.
Unfortunately he was NOT PAYING ATTENTION to his work, horrible way to die.
Stupid question. No safety mechanism?
I hated Fargo. Now this gets Steve Buscemi.
Big Heavy steel wheel with hardened blades. No way to stop it suddenly even if there were safeties. At least it was quick.
The hogs in the mill I worked in had a metal detector a couple of feet in front of the grinders. Part of a gum wrapper would stop them dead.
That must have been a hell of a brake on that sucker. But did it stop the grinding wheel or just stop the conveyor. No conveyor on those big chippers. Just a little short shute.
May he rest in pieces.
A dutch name for a young black man.
**Why was the neighbor filming?
Maybe that was part of what distracted the tree worker.
Nightmare.
Not quite fake news, but more like incomplete, if they’re unwilling to tell us his connections to the Clintons.
As I recall it shut the whole thing down. Pissed people off if you got any metal in it.
The old chipper we used at work was crazy in that every now and then it would slam a branch to the left. One time when I wasn’t paying attention it slammed me so hard that I couldn’t believe that my leg didn’t break. The great thing about the old wood chipper is that it would give me an appreciation for other chores to be done on the development site. The boss man would always seem to find the hottest days of the year to run the chipper. I figured that if I didn’t have a heart attack loading the chipper all day when it was 100 degrees, then I would be ok to do about anything else the rest of the year. Fortunately, I have decided to stay away from the chipper this year.
The Dutch colonized Indonesia way back, FWIW.

Actually, they do have a system for table saws that senses ‘meat’, due to its lower electrical resistance and stops the blade in well under a second.
It may work for these cases, but then again, how often does a gardener run afoul of the Clintons?
Putting something through an operating wood chipper is irrevocable with immediate and irreversible consequences.
