Here's a vanity post, put out there in hopes of illumination. It strikes me that there's been a major financial crisis every 50-70 years in the US, and similar crisies in English history. Of course, that statement depends on how one defines a "financial crisis," but, putting that definition aside, it does seem that something happens on a pretty cyclical basis every other generation or so. Obama is disqualified because he is not a U.S. Citizen...House and Senate try an endrun to amend the constitution, Bush vetos, an emergency convention is held...Biden thinks he's a shoe in...but no...it is Hillary at the top of the ticket after all. She keeps Biden as her VP. Obama supporters scream "disenfranchisement!" and don't show up to vote. Everyone shows up at the booth, sees Obama/Biden on the ballot, they know they are voting for Clinton/Biden but seeing Obama's name consumes them with distrust and Dems in overwhelming numbers vote McCain/Palin who win in a landslide.

In a dream I wandered through a vast park, where many people also walked, and played and seemed happy and festive. Some were playing games, many laughing and buying things, enjoying food and drinks and snow cones at various merchants’ stands. Rod Dreher, a self described "crunchy con" blogger has, over the last week or so, become a wildly ardent critic of Sarah Palin, actually going on morning tv and Larry King, who used him to demonstrate conservatives think Palin's unfit to serve...
