Netflix has canceled plans to produce an upcoming series titled “OBX” in North Carolina after lingering concerns about the state’s trans bathroom law, a person familiar with the matter told TheWrap Friday. The network instead plans to host production in neighboring South Carolina, in a decision that was described as “final.” The series has not been officially announced by Netflix and the company declined to comment on the matter. For many vacationers on North Carolina’s Outer Banks, a trip there is not complete without at least catching a glimpse of the majestic wild horses that roam the islands. As Hurricane Florence approaches, many are expressing concern about how the horses will fare during the powerful Category 4 storm. The Facebook page of the Corolla Wild Horse Fund was peppered with comments from worried tourists and residents. “Thinking of all of the horses as Florence approaches. ... Emerald Isle, N.C. — A woman from Kentucky drowned Sunday while on vacation in Emerald Isle, according to officials. In a Facebook post, the Town of Emerald Isle stated that Donna Sue Miller, 49, became caught in a rip current with her friend and her friend's 9-year-old daughter. According to the post, the three were swimming near The Islander Hotel around 7 p.m. when the drowning occured. Officials say Miller was found facedown in the water and was carried to the shore by onlookers. The others made it safely to shore.

The remains of a long-ago victim of the Graveyard of the Atlantic have been discovered on the beach off Corolla after this week’s rough surf. A pair of photos taken Thursday night show the remains of the wreck near Whalehead.

Manteo, N.C. — The Outer Banks are no stranger to a Category 1 hurricane like Irene, which hit Saturday with 85 mph winds and heavy rain. But Irene's eye tracked just west of the Pamlico, Croatan and Albermarle sounds, then crossed the Currituck Sound to go back out to sea. That drew water from the sounds, as well the ocean, west. Unearthed photos a gift to historians on OBX Manteo. N.C. A collection of old photos, some not seen before by local historians, shows wreckage in Hatteras after the big hurricane of 1899. Carol Cronk Cole, granddaughter of an employee of the Virginia Beach weather bureau office in the 1890s, has given copies of 20 photographs to the Outer Banks History Center in Manteo. CAROLINA BEACH - As sea level continues to rise, North Carolina communities that have relied on beach renourishment programs will find it harder and harder to keep up with the ocean's onslought, a federal scientist told beach community and state officials today. At 12:35 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 11, a Villa Dunes resident spotted a fire across the sound on Roanoke Island and called 911. Part of The Lost Colony’s Waterside Theatre was in flames.
