White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt faced mockery on Wednesday after another apparent slip-up during a press briefing. Leavitt stated that President Donald Trump is “committed to passing a big reconciliation package later this year,” which includes “ending no taxes on tips.” Leavitt says Trump is committed to "ending no taxes on tips" — Aaron Rupar (@atrupar.com)2025-03-19T17:30:01.137Z Critics quickly seized on the phrase, interpreting it as an accidental double negative that contradicted Trump’s 2024 election campaign promise to nix taxes on tips. Trump is yet to implement the policy. Leavitt on Monday drew similar mockery after she accidentally claimed the...

This was an early campaign promise from Trump which even his opponent endorsed (or stole).. So it seems it will be one of his first measures to go through the new Congress? It could be a hugely popular move especially in the service industry which is massive. Go Trump!

In a mirror of national politics, California Republicans followed former President Donald Trump’s lead by proposing to end taxes on tips. While Vice President Kamala Harris, who formerly represented California in the U.S. Senate, embraced the measure, California Democrats said no, shooting down the proposed amendment in the California Senate. “Even Trump and Harris both say we should eliminate the ‘tip tax,’” said the California Senate Republican Caucus in a statement. Soon after Trump announced his proposal to a crowd in Nevada, which has the highest percentage of tipped workers in the nation, Harris also came out in favor of...

Vice President Kamala Harris copied a campaign promise first announced by former President Donald Trump to eliminate taxes on tips. During a campaign rally in Nevada on Saturday, Harris acknowledged that Culinary Union Local 226 was at the rally, and she continued on to vow that if elected president in November, she would work to “raise the minimum wage” and “eliminate taxes on tips for service and hospitality workers.” Harris’s promise comes after Trump announced in June during a rally in Las Vegas, Nevada, that if elected president, his administration would “not charge taxes on tips.”

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) proposed a revenue procedure this week to crack down on the service industry's reporting of tips. The Service Industry Tip Compliance Agreement (SITCA) program would be a voluntary tip reporting system in which the IRS and service industry companies cooperate, according to the announcement Monday. As part of the proposal, the IRS will give the public until early May to provide feedback on the program before implementing it.

Kamala Harris has stolen one of Donald Trump's key campaign promises to stop taxing tips given to service workers. Harris revealed she was copying the flagship Trump policy at a rally in Las Vegas Saturday night. She told attendees her government will 'eliminate taxes on tips for hospitality and service utility workers.' The announcement drew huge applause. Trump himself attacked Kamala in a post on Truth Social, asking: 'How long will it be before Kamala Harris comes out with another “TRUMP” policy like, “No Taxes will be paid by our Senior Citizens on Social Security?” 'She’s looking really bad now!...

Possibly very true. Also possibly very true: The US might need to strike actual gold to afford it. Nevertheless, Donald Trump has emphasized his desire to find new places to cut taxes in order to generate real economic growth. Those ideas are also clearly aimed at finding inroads into traditional Democrat constituencies. A proposal to end taxes on tips has a lot of appeal for low-income servers, who are likely younger voters, and both are key demos for Kamala Harris and other Democrats. It didn't woo the culinary union leaders, but it might appeal to their members. His latest proposal clearly...

Was the “leak” actually strategic? Could it have been a clever reverse psychology maneuver? Think about it in terms of Trump deliciously pouring gasoline on an already raging dumpster fire. Democrats — to spite their arch nemesis — then are forced to rally behind the dead man walking. Brilliant Trump move, if true.

Republican Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas is not waiting until after the presidential election to launch a bid to put one of former President Donald Trump’s ideas into effect. Cruz has introduced the No Tax on Tips Act that would keep the Internal Revenue Service from taking a slice of the income service workers gain through tips, according to a news release on Cruz’s website. During a recent rally in Las Vegas, Trump indicated he opposes taxes on tips, according to The Hill. “For those hotel workers and people that get tips, you’re going to be very happy. Because when...

A political action committee supporting former President Donald Trump is giving out free stickers for supporters to stick on restaurant receipts to tell workers about Trump’s promise to get rid of taxes on tips. The super PAC, Make America Great Again Inc., announced the sticker initiative on Tuesday, telling supporters on a new website to “join the no tip tax campaign today” and “get your stickers free.” “Trump won’t tax your tips!” the stickers read. “Vote Trump.”
