The off-duty pilot accused of trying to bring down an Alaska Airlines flight told investigators he took psychedelic mushrooms 48 hours prior to the incident, had been depressed, and believed he was experiencing a mental breakdown, authorities said. The off-duty pilot — Joseph Emerson, 44, of California — has since been charged with more than 80 counts of attempted murder, and the FBI is investigating whether he was under the influence when he tried to shut down the plane's engines while sitting in the cockpit of Sunday's flight from Everett, Washington, to San Francisco, officials told NBC News.

Chinese scientists have discovered never-before-seen viruses lurking on a tropical island — and warned they could infect humans. Researchers tasked with preparing the world for future pandemic took almost 700 samples from rodents living in Hainan, just off China's southern coast. Eight novel viruses — including one belonging to the same family as Covid — were uncovered in the project, funded by the Chinese Government. Experts said the discovered pathogens had a 'high probability' of infecting humans should they ever cross the species barrier. As a result, they called for further experiments on the viruses to determine exactly what their...

All the remaining hostages in Gaza will be released in exchange for greater aid and free passage for Hamas leaders and their families, a report has claimed. Moti Kahana, an American-Israeli entrepreneur, is working on an 'extraordinary plan' to secure all hostages in the Gaza Strip, as well the bodies of fallen Israeli soldiers that have been held by the terrorist group since 2014, Jewish News reported. The two-stage plan allegedly involves sending medical supplies, baby and hygiene provisions to Gaza for 'civilian use'. It would also allow 'Hamas leaders in Gaza, not those involved in the slaughter of Israelis'...

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden’s administration is moving to revoke the designation of Yemen’s Houthis as a terrorist group, citing the need to mitigate one of the world’s worst humanitarian disasters. President Donald Trump’s administration had branded the Iranian-backed Houthis as a foreign terrorist organization, a move that limited the provision of aid to the beleaguered Yemeni people, who have suffered under a yearslong civil war and famine. A State Department official confirmed the move Friday after members of Congress were notified of the administration’s plans. The official, who wasn’t authorized to speak publicly and spoke on condition of...

Rep. Steve Womack, R-Ark., an Army veteran who opposed the far-right push for Rep. Jim Jordan for speaker, said he was stunned by Rep. Tom Emmer's exit from the speaker race. "We are hopelessly divided. We are -- we are struggling to find our way," he told ABC's Rachel Scott. The people that are involved in these proceedings are hell-bent on making sure that if it's not their guy, their pick, nothing else matters." "We are hellbent on letting the perfect, or the selfish, get in the way of the good," he said. Scott asked Womack, a six-term veteran, if...

Former President Donald Trump's final chief of staff in the White House, Mark Meadows, has spoken with special counsel Jack Smith's team at least three times this year, including once before a federal grand jury, which came only after Smith granted Meadows immunity to testify under oath, according to sources familiar with the matter.

A 28-year-old Montana mom of two children named Aryan and Nation was arrested for fatally striking a Native American woman while allegedly high on meth — and then claiming she mistook the victim for a deer. Sunny White was apprehended in Flathead County Friday on a warrant out of Lake County charging her with vehicular homicide while under the influence in the March 2023 death of 22-year-old Mika Westwolf. Additional charges against White include accidents involving another person or deceased person, two counts of criminal child endangerment and criminal possession of dangerous drugs. Westwolf was walking along Highway 93 in...

WASHINGTON – At lunch Tuesday, a majority of Republicans tapped Majority Whip Tom Emmer to be the next speaker of the House. By cocktail hour, Emmer was out. It had become clear during the three-plus hours Emmer was the nominee that, like the two previous speaker-designees, the Minnesota Republican would get nowhere near the almost-unanimous support of House Republicans he needed to win the speaker’s gavel. Emmer's departure has opened the door for Rep. Mike Johnson, of Benton, to possibly be elected the fourth speaker-designate since Kevin McCarthy was ousted on Oct. 3. His staff confirms that Johnson is back...

Conventional wisdom says voters don’t care about foreign policy. Nearly two years into Europe’s largest conflict since World War II, the conventional wisdom seemed to be right. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has had little effect on the GOP presidential nomination race and opened no room for a challenger to Joe Biden among the Democrats. But the butchery Hamas perpetrated against Israeli civilians Oct. 7 has shocked Americans like nothing since 9/11. Memories of the war on terror have come flooding back: the Twin Towers burning, Daniel Pearl’s murder in Pakistan, bombings in London, a massacre in Paris, ISIS cutting the...

The sources said Meadows informed Smith's team that he repeatedly told Trump in the weeks after the 2020 presidential election that the allegations of significant voting fraud coming to them were baseless, a striking break from Trump's prolific rhetoric regarding the election. According to the sources,...

The U.S. is committed to the Palestinian people’s right to “self-determination” and “dignity,” President Biden said on Tuesday, weeks after Palestinian terrorist group Hamas murdered an estimated 1,400 people in Israel. “The United States remains committed to the Palestinian people’s right to dignity and to self-determination. The actions of Hamas terrorists don’t take that right away,” Biden said Tuesday morning. It remains unclear what, specifically, prompted that statement.

President Joe Biden bragged on Tuesday about sharing a “great deal of time” with Chinese dictator Xi Jinping, the head of the Chinese Communist Party, which has tentacles throughout Biden family business deals. While speaking at the White House, Biden recalled he was on the Tibetan Plateau with Xi, with whom he “spent a great deal of time with him one-on-one” when he “was vice president and since then.” It is unclear if Joe Biden suggested he met one-on-one with Xi during his time as a private citizen between 2017 and 2020 or if he referred to time spent with...

The IDF recovered on Tuesday a phone call in which a Hamas terrorist called his parents to boast of the amount of Jews he killed during the massacre of civilians in southern Israel on October 7. The phone call, initiated by the terrorist, was taken from the phone of a murdered Israeli woman which was recovered by Israeli security forces, some two weeks after the massacre. "Hi dad, I am speaking to you from Mefalsim," the Hamas terrorist is heard saying. "Open your WhatsApp and look at all the killed [Israelis]. Look at how many I killed with my own...

U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) has followed through on her promise to seek accountability for fellow House lawmaker Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) with a censure resolution introduced on Tuesday. MTG's resolution seeks to censure Tlaib for "antisemitic activity, sympathizing with terrorist organizations, and leading an insurrection at the United States Capitol Complex." As Townhall reported last week, Tlaib was part of a demonstration calling for a "ceasefire now" in order to prevent Israel from responding to the slaughter of more than 1,400 innocent Israeli citizens and visitors at the hands of barbaric Hamas terrorists earlier in October. That demonstration included...
