In a surprise move, the Republican-led Senate quickly passed the "No Tax on Tips Act" on Tuesday, giving its official stamp of approval to an idea that has gained traction since President Donald Trump campaigned on it in 2024.
The legislation would create a new tax deduction worth up to $25,000 for tips, limited to cash tips that that workers report to employers for withholding purposes on payroll taxes. The tax break is also restricted to employees who earn earn $160,000 or less in 2025, an amount that will rise with inflation in upcoming years.
The bill now goes to the House, where Republicans have been seeking to include a version of the proposal in their sweeping party-line package for Trump's agenda.

Still taxing social security though?
Too many constituents in this business...and remember...the Union owns a lot of this industry.
That will really hurt Republicans in the midterms terms—as many seniors will not be happy.
Yep!
Yep!
It will pass in some form
Mouthy Alexandria Ocasio-Cucaracha's head is spinning in a runaway unstable feedback loop.
Nonsense bill....so people that work for wages fall further behind....so don’t be a cop or nurse or teacher or other...geez
“Still taxing social security though?”
“We HAVE to....”
[Buncha MAGA Maniacs need to stay on their leash...]
After the indecent SS COLA,and with the continued onslaught of property tax,you would have thought they would throw us a bone.
The game is rigged.
“That will really hurt Republicans in the midterms terms—as many seniors will not be happy.”
Not the only no-go issue in the beauty bill.
RINOS NEED TO TREAD LIGHTLY.
No. Just not all of it. They were too stupid to go all in. It’s more like a yearly credit of 4,000 a year or so.
No reason at all that tipped employees should get a tax break others don’t get. Same with overtime.
SS? Now, Father Time comes for everyone, so that’s universal. Should just have a cap on it.
“Here’s the SS gimmick: raise SS payments by 3%—simultaneously raise Medicare premiums by 10%.”
For the annual Deep State BINGO win.
Still taxing social security though?

My social security isn’t taxed by feds.
Unless you’re counting paying for Medicare. If so say so.

Right.
That poor slob small business owner. No breaks for him.
That poor slob freelance worker. No breaks for him either.
Same for low-paid “exempt” employees who have to put in overtime without any additional pay at all.
I don’t think there was ever a reasonable way to measure tips, so my take is why bother?
