Outlaw Public Sector Unions
American Greatness ^ | 21 May 2025 | Edward Ring

Public sector unions fuel bloated government and rig the system with taxpayer money—outlawing them is the first step to restoring democratic accountability.

California Governor Gavin Newsom is attempting to pivot to the political center in hopes of appealing to moderate Democrats in the 2028 presidential primaries. But Newsom is constrained by the same political machine that influences Democrats nationwide: public sector unions. Some would say this influence is absolute—and in California, that is almost certainly true. Over the past 15 years of Newsom’s political career, public sector unions contributed over $21 million to his campaigns, more than any other special interest group. In second place at $9.5 million were Democratic Party organizations, themselves primarily dependent on contributions from public sector unions.

This is the forgotten enabler of the so-called deep state. When we speak of an out-of-control administrative state, we must consider who organizes these bureaucrats, collects dues automatically from their taxpayer-funded paychecks, and then uses that money to make or break any politician they wish.

If you want to know the ultimate reason why California’s public sector is broken, bloated, inefficient, and tyrannical, look to public sector unions. They are the root cause of why California’s public school system is failing, the cities are still overrun with criminals and homeless drug addicts, and the cost of living continues to explode. Since 2000, the US Census Bureau estimates that more than 10 million people have moved out of California, along with thousands of businesses. One of the root causes of this misery, not explicitly identified nearly enough, is the political power of public sector unions.

No government employee should belong to any union. Their job is to serve the citizens only.

True in every state. Nothing wrong with unions. Nothing wrong with public sector workers. But, public sector unions are simply not reasonable. They should not be allowed. They a bargaining against the people who in most instances have no other option for the services they provide.

But the Democrats don't care as long as they get the campaign cash.

Can’t imagine being a citizen in some city that is run by unions, and that county is run by unions, and that state is run by unions, and the country is run by unions.

There will be teachers’ unions as long as there are school administrators.

IMHO, the only public sector unions that have merit is for Police/Fire/EMS. Dem Politicians love to these areas under the bus then blame them for the inevitable consequences.

If we could convince them that the real persons involved in negotiations...DON’T HAVE A SEAT AT THE BARGAINING TABLE...

THAT’S US...WE, THE PEOPLE

How UNFAIR is that?

That is what led to millionaire cops and firemen looting taxpayer money.

could it be possible to have congress pass a public union ban that will affect even the state level?

A list to which he should add that unions are the reason firefighters don't fight wildland fires. Prisoners do.

The best way to start a fix is to outlaw union monopoly in total to force competition in the business of delivering skilled labor. The NLRA must be amended.

The union was formed by a jfk eo so ending them should be straight forward.

That was for allowing federal employees unions. The state employee unions will take state government & legislature action in each state. Much harder!

Wasn’t the FedGov employees union an Executive Order by JFK? If so, can that be un-done with an Exec. Order by Trump?

Wait a second. I thought President John F. Kennedy was this big time conservative that would be a MAGA conservative tea partier if he were alive in 2025? That's what we are constantly told.

Don't we have government unions because of JFK? Weren't unions disallowed from forming prior to Executive Order 10988?
