  • ‘For them not to reach out is pure PRIVILEGE’: Lady Antebellum’s new ‘woke’ name already belongs to a black blues singer

Guess what happens when you overreact to the mob and make a decision based completely on proving how much you CARE … you pick a new name for your band that appropriates the name of a black, blues singer who you didn’t bother to reach out to beforehand. Awkward and oopsie. Lady Antebellum is now “Lady A” — but so is a black blues singer who’s performed music under the name for 20 years. “For them to not even reach out is pure privilege,” says the woman with the original moniker — Rolling Stone

  • Conservatives roasted for discovering Rage Against the Machine is political

Conservatives have been forced to reckon with some uncomfortable truths about racism and police brutality in America over the past two weeks. But perhaps no pill proved harder to swallow than this: Rage Against the Machine is a political band. Yes, that Rage Against the Machine. The one that wrote “Killing in the Name” in response to the Rodney King riots. The one that equated the police to the Ku Klux Klan in that very song. The one whose debut album cover features a photo of the self-immolation of Vietnamese Buddhist monk Thích Quảng Đức, who was protesting Vietnam’s oppression...

According to a survey conducted by the newly formed National Independent Venue Association (NIVA), nearly all of independent music venues may be forced to close their doors for good due to the coronavirus pandemic. 2,000 members from all 50 states took part in the survey, which found that 90% of the venues "will close permanently in a few months without federal funding." NIVA recently sent a letter calling on Congress to provide assistance in the wake of the "unique and dire situation" facing the industry. Dayna Frank, NIVA board president and owner of Minneapolis's First Avenue, explained: "Our passionate and...
  • ‘B*tch’ Singer Meredith Brooks Rips Garcetti: All My Artists Friends in LA Bought Guns

Singer-songwriter Meredith Brooks is calling out Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti for the city’s permissive attitude toward crime, saying that it has forced her friends to buy guns to protect themselves and has caused residents to flee the city. Her criticism comes as L.A. is still reeling from the widespread looting stemming from violent rioting during the past week. The city’s tense situation was made worse by Mayor Garcetti’s plan to slash the LAPD budget by as much as $150 million. The mayor also called LAPD officers “killers” at a recent meeting with local black leaders. Meredith Brooks said in...
  • Why the Golden Gate Bridge made strange noises with the wind Friday

Bay Area residents were serenaded by the Golden Gate Bridge as wind gusts passed through the region Friday — a new phenomenon that has a relatively simple explanation. A number of individuals shared videos of the eerie humming sound coming from the bridge, with many reporting they could hear the noise from miles away. After enough people inquired about the noise, the Golden Gate Bridge Sargent reported the sound is caused by wind hitting new sidewalk railing slats. The Golden Gate Bridge now makes music. • THUG LIFE: Pretend Christian Kanye West join BLM Anti-Police Protests, Scrubs Twitter Feed of Nearly all His 'Sunday Service' Tweets

Oh, it was such fun while it lasted, wasn’t it? Pretend Christian Kanye West deceived millions of biblically illiterate and lukewarm Laodicean Christians with his phony ‘Sunday Service’ garbage, where Ye was glorified and Jesus came in a close second. Remember how hard on me you were when I pointed out to you that he was deceiving you to make millions? Well, Kanye West made about $250 millions off of you people who bought his stuff. Remember you said that he was just a “baby Christian” and to give him time? Time’s up, welcome to reality. Kanye West marched in...

On Tuesday, Apple Music canceled the radio schedule for Beats 1 radio to support “Blackout Tuesday,” suggesting that listeners tune in to a “”Blackout Tuesday” radio stream. On launching ‌Apple Music‌, users see a message that replaces the normal “For You,” “Browse,” and “Radio” sections. The page includes a “Listen Together” button that links to the aforementioned station. In steadfast support of the Black voices that define music, creativity, and culture, we use ours. This moment calls upon us all to speak and act against racism and injustice of all kinds. We stand in solidarity with Black communities everywhere....

Opened up Apple Music on my iPhone to find that they've added Black Lives Matter garbage all over it. The radio section has even removed the listing of all the normal radio stations and been replaced by just one station with black artists. I immediately decided to cancel. Yes, I know that they'll still have millions of subscribers, but I think in these times one has to respond to that way. (And here is a tweet from Apple Music from a few hours ago stating that they will be doing this for the day: https://twitter.com/AppleMusic/status/1267633854933852160)

This is my first vanity post, so bear with me. I just think a lot of us need to decompress from this COVID-19 donnybrook, the whole current state of civil upheaval, the so-called 'peaceful' riots, shootings, and lootings, and sundry other manufactured irritants in our lives. I, for one, retreat to music, either from CD or online playlists, and was wondering: what are you currently listening to that is lessening your bile and lowering your blood pressure? Is it rock, classical, country, pop, chamber, ambient, opera, electronica? Who are your favorite artists in any given genre? Are they a known...

The music industry is planning to turn off the music and hold a day to reflect and implement change in response to the death of George Floyd and the killings of other black people. Several top record labels organized Black Out Tuesday as violent protests erupted around the world sparked by Floyd’s death as well as the killings of Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor. Music-based companies Live Nation and TikTok, as well as the Recording Academy, posted to social media that it planned to support and stand with the black community. “On Tuesday June 2nd, Columbia Records will observe ‘Black...

The three Louisiana churches went up in flames in a span of 10 days, each doused in gasoline and torched with oily shop rags in the middle of the night. Each Baptist congregation was predominantly black, causing church leaders to fear that white supremacists may target their parish next. But as the fears swirled, the arsonist, 22-year-old Holden Matthews, was busy planning his next album cover, according to text messages obtained by prosecutors He burned down the three churches in St. Landry Parish, federal prosecutors said Monday, because he wanted “to raise his profile as a ‘Black Metal’ musician.” Matthews,...
