In single-sex classes, which are common for sex education, students must be allowed to go to the class of the gender they consider themselves to be rather than their actual gender, the U.S. Department of Education directed schools that receive federal funds in a Dec. 1 memo. The memo, from the department's Office for Civil Rights, provides guidance for K-12 schools for when they are allowed to have same-sex classes or extracurricular activities and remain in compliance with Title IX, a 1972 law to protect against gender discrimination in education programs that get federal aid. Schools may divide students by...

".....Any woman who is raped, on campus or off, deserves a fair and thorough investigation of her claim, and those found guilty should be punished. But the new rules—rules often put in place hastily and in response to the idea of a rape epidemic on campus—have left some young men saying they are the ones who have been victimized. They are starting to push back. In the past three years, men found responsible for sexual assault on campus have filed more than three dozen cases against schools. They argue that their due process rights have been violated and say they...

Ousted Surgeon Pushes Back Against CriticsApril 20, 2011 — Lazar Greenfield, MD, who resigned Sunday as president-elect of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) after praising semen as a mood-booster for women in an editorial, said that he faced the prospects of protestors at medical meetings if he stayed in office.Dr. Greenfield's claim appeared in a statement that he emailed today to press outlets, a statement that defends the controversial editorial against charges of being sexist and demeaning to women. He also suggests that his female critics are "vindictive.""The reports surrounding my resignation...lead readers to conclude that I represent an...

Every local authority in the country had to publish a "gender equality scheme" earlier this year to meet new anti-discrimination legislation. Scroll...

Residents of Oregon town say shape of traffic posts is offensive Story Published: Jul 6, 2007 at 8:20 AM PDT Story Updated: Jul 6, 2007 at 9:06 AM PDT By Melica Johnson and KATU Web Staff KEIZER, Ore. - The City of Keizer is taking heat for installing a group of cement posts designed to protect pedestrians from cars, but which some say is a phallic symbol. The National Organization for Women has called for the resignation of Harvard University President Lawrence Summers. Summers offended feminists last week when he suggested that "innate" differences in men and women may help explain why men dominate math, sciences and engineering. But according to NOW, the long history of male domination in these fields is attributable to "sexism" and other social constructs. CALMING RUFFLED FEATHERS Summers, the former US Treasury Secretary from the Clinton administration, has offered a series of increasingly contrite apologies to those whose sensitivites were upset by his observations. In his third official apology, posted Wednesday night...

Members of Congress are demanding answers to their questions about scandalous behavior photographed at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq. “How could this happen?” they ask. But this is not the first time that they have been warned about personal indiscipline and inferior training in the military. Maj. Gen. Antonio Taguba observed in his scathing report that military police soldiers at Abu Ghraib were weak in basic military occupational skills. How could this happen? Consider the effect of co-ed basic training, imposed on the Army in 1994. Two years later, sex scandals erupted at Aberdeen Proving Ground and basic training facilities....

For a provocative look at the emergence of Christianity two millenniums ago, skip Mel Gibson's "Passion of the Christ" and examine instead some of the fascinating recent scholarship on the early church. Interest in the early church has blossomed because of "Passion" and the "Da Vinci Code" thriller. But "Passion" and especially "The Da Vinci Code" take great liberties with history, while serious research has gotten much less attention. Consider the newly published "Gospel of Mary of Magdala." It offers a new translation by Karen King, a Harvard Divinity School professor, of the obscure Gospel of Mary, which was lost...

AUGUSTA, GA—Martha Burk is targeting corporate America in her guilt by association campaign against Augusta National. But all of America should be targeting her National Council of Women’s Organizations and its supporters of terrorism. The feminist protester of the men-only Augusta National Golf Club, site of today’s Masters Golf Tournament, announced yesterday that she will now attack corporations whose CEOs and top executives are among Augusta National’s approximately 300 members. Burk said she will examine the companies’ employment records and other data for reasons to boycott them. Calling it her “consumer education campaign,” Burk linked corporate CEO’s trips to Augusta...

Anyone familiar with the New York Times' bias against men was not surprised by the Jayson Blair scandal, in which the reporter blatantly falsified stories for years. The Times is notorious for pitching gender feminism in slanted, one-sided reports. The systemic dishonesty exhibited by the Blair scandal was not an isolated incident. When it comes to coverage of men, it seems to be policy at the Gray Lady. continued...

<p>When, in 2001, New York voters were asked to amend the state's 226-year-old constitution to make it gender-neutral there was, as would be expected, some fervent opposition.</p>
<p>Led by conservative and religious forces, they claimed there was already an implied inclusiveness to words like "man," "mankind," "he's" and "his," and that, if anything, such a change would be purely symbolic - a gesture that added up to little more than political correctness stretched to its limits. At its best, the move was pure "foolishness," as the Rev. Duane Motley of New Yorkers for Constitutional Freedoms put it, and at its worst it represented "the feminizing of our society."</p>

<p>Male bashing -- the stereotyping of men as brutal, stupid or otherwise objectionable -- is commonplace. Our sons, husbands, fathers and men-friends are gleefully slandered because they are male. They are subjected to malicious jokes and attitudes that would be decried if directed at blacks, Hispanics or women. The assault against men must stop. But how?</p>

Mysterious Decline-Where Are the Men on Campus?By Glenn Sacks on 04/30/03 Everybody wants to know where all the men have gone. The Washington Post calls their disappearance the "question that has grown too conspicuous to ignore," and USA Today notes "universities fret about how to attract males as women increasingly dominate campuses." Females now outnumber males by a four to three ratio in American colleges, a difference of almost two million students. Men earn only 43% of all college degrees. Among blacks, two women earn bachelor’s degrees for every man. Among Hispanics, only 40 percent of college graduates are male....

Monday, April 28, 2003 -- NORTHAMPTON - Smith College students earlier this month made a decision some might find mystifying: Although Smith is a women's college, the students voted to change the language of their student constitution so that the pronouns "she" and "her" would be replaced with gender-neutral terms. The vote applies only to student government documents, and not to official college publications, so none of the college's brochures will excise the female pronouns. The student government vote is an indication of a deeper issue facing Smith College, and other same-sex institutions, which is that a growing number of...

Universities celebrate diversity in all but ideologyFriday, March 28, 2003 - Volume 92 Number 49 Universities were designed to be institutions of academic knowledge. Some liberal professors might say that universities' intentions should be "the disinterested pursuit of knowledge." Fine. That being said, what were universities not designed to be? They were not intended to be "agencies of social change," or to promote a particular political agenda. These ideas are no longer popular among the faculties and administrations of today's universities, particularly in the social sciences. Today's more popular doctrine is illustrated in the words of Richard Rorty, professor of...

Two years ago today, we buried my father. I cried then – I still do. It's hard without him because he'd always been there. My mother is healthy and lives in the house they shared. Her strength and faith maintain her through each day. There's a gaping hole in life with him gone but his spirit is with her and their love prevails. My parents, through the ebb and flow of life, were together for 65 years – an astonishing record. In this day of splintered families, I was fortunate to have an intact home. Mom and Dad were always...
