MINNEAPOLIS - The Minnesota Vikings fired coach Mike Tice after Sunday's victory over Chicago. ADVERTISEMENT The team announced that owner Zygi Wilf would not renew Tice's contract less than an hour after the Vikings' 34-10 win over the Bears in the regular season finale. Tice, who finished his fourth full season with a 32-32 record, had already addressed the media before the move was made public. His tenure was mostly marked by streaks and scandals, with a $100,000 fine levied last summer against him by the league for scalping his Super Bowl tickets and a wild boat party during the...

Today, we will watch Mike Tice stalk the sideline in his customary black garb. Some of us will see a gridiron Johnny Cash dancing in a vocational ring of fire. Some of us will see a lame-duck coach slogging through his contractual duties. Somewhere in the Metrodome today, though, there will be four sets of eyes viewing Tice as a man with a heart as big as his Long Island accent. "It's a long story," said Riikka Jacobsen. She was happy to tell it. Jacobsen's husband, Captain Bill Jacobsen, was killed by an insurgent's bomb in Iraq a little more...

(WCCO) MINNEAPOLIS WCCO Radio is reporting Vikings Coach Mike Tice may be out of a job. Tice's contract is up after this year and WCCO Radio's Dark Star said sources close to the story told him Vikings owner, Zygi Wilf, will not renew TIce's contract and will relieve the coach of his duties on Monday. A meeting is scheduled between Mike Tice and Zygi Wilf for Monday. WCCO-TV's Mike Max spoke with one Vikings coach Friday afternoon who said if that is the case, Tice is not aware of it.

A column by Mike Downey of the Chicago Tribune got me thinking on this subject of web sites dedicated to firing coaches. Fire Joe Paterno.com, the subject of Downey's wrath, has backed down a bit from its "noble" cause, and the domain owner has reserved the domain name "Keep Joe Paterno.com." Too bad the board of directors at Penn State didn't reserve it first. My first foray into internet activism was Blue States for Bush. I got some hate e-mails, which I expected. The e-mails I got that really troubled me usually followed this line of logic. "Your site sucks...

Minnesota head coach Mike Tice is being investigated by the NFL for allegedly heading up and profiting from a Super Bowl ticket-scalping operation within the Vikings organization, a violation of NFL rules that league sources say has been going on for years. Two investigators from the league's security staff, Larry Sweeney and John Keenan, were in the Twin Cities on Tuesday, questioning Tice in his office and speaking with Vikings running backs coach Dean Dalton, as well as other club personnel. The pair left the team complex in the afternoon to meet with the team's director of ticket sales, Phil...

WOW! What an incredible rally. Local press is estimating around 23,000 which sounds right. The crowd was VERY energetic, just crazy. Norm Coleman, John Klein, Jim Ramstad and Gov Pawlenty were there as well as St. Paul Mayor Randy Kelly. Norm Coleman said he and Gov Pawlenty would be working around the clock for Pres Bush in the state. I can't remember the name of the musical guest, but he and Mayor Kelly sang Amazing Grace and the crowd joined in at the very end. Minnesota Vikings coach Mike Tice was there and presented Pres Bush with a Vikings jersey....

President Bush spoke at the Target Center in Minneapolis today. He drew a crowd of 23,000; I didn't think the building could hold that many. Mike Tice, the coach of the Minnesota Vikings, introduced Bush, giving him both a Vikings jersey and a ringing endorsement: "When it's the fourth quarter and the game is on the line, you want somebody with a cool head calling the plays." The Associated Press admits the crowd was enthusiastic, but does what it can to diminish the story's impact, devoting three paragraphs to "several dozen" Kerry supporters who protested across the street--a pathetic turnout--and...
