(WCCO) MINNEAPOLIS WCCO Radio is reporting Vikings Coach Mike Tice may be out of a job.
Tice's contract is up after this year and WCCO Radio's Dark Star said sources close to the story told him Vikings owner, Zygi Wilf, will not renew TIce's contract and will relieve the coach of his duties on Monday.
A meeting is scheduled between Mike Tice and Zygi Wilf for Monday.
WCCO-TV's Mike Max spoke with one Vikings coach Friday afternoon who said if that is the case, Tice is not aware of it.

Tice lives down the road from me in the off season. Perhaps the Seahawks will find a position for him. Ray Rhoades, (overrated Seahawk defensive coach), had a stroke and probably will be replaced.
Funny, evey talking head extolls the virtues of Ray Rhoades "D", yet the Seahawks are undefeated since his stroke and he couldn't call the defensive plays on Sunday.
I like Mike Tice, he's a great guy and good coach.

Does he have any kind of background with defence at all?

I like Mike Tice, he's a great guy and good coach.Maybe so, but short of the Vikings getting to the Super Bowl, that floating sex party they had earlier this year pretty much killed his future with the organization.

I'm surprised Mike Tice ever escaped from the laboratory.

Speaking of old Ray Rhoades, back in the days when I was dating my ex-wife, Ray Rhoades was the cat's meow of the Mexia, Texas, high school football team.
Once I actually watched a single Friday night game where he scored touchdowns on runs from scrimmage, by pass catching, on a pass interception, a punt return and a kickoff return!
Ray was something else in the late 1960s Texas High School Football...

They should re-hire Bud Grant (if he's still alive) and build an outdoor stadium and play there.

I heard the guy who coaches Detroit is available or maybe Parcells.

I like Tice too. Met him briefly at a racetrack (he has owned horses in the past).
I supported him as Head Coach for a long time, but he isn't a great Head Coach. He is a good O-Line or TE coach. Has a decent eye for talent. He struggles with things like challenging a play, making adjustments at halftime, consistency. He advanced every year with the Vikings, going from player to TE coach and rising every year. Somebody in the organization saw a lot in him and committed to him, so I've given him the benefit of the doubt for many years but he has not shown he can handle the position of Head Coach to most fans.
I wish it would have worked out better for him because he is a good guy, but I think letting him go is the right choice for the team. Meanwhile, Dungy and Billick come up thru our system and we groom them too, but they bolt after being denied for too long. Now we got nothing. There's actually rumors of Fran Tarkenton returning in some form, possibly as the new coach.
To: Reform4Bush
really? Tarkenton as coach? I was in college when he provided the many heart palpitations. The '70's version of Dan Marino or Jim Kelly.
I bet he'd be an asset recruiting and selling season tickets.

Dungy and Billick come up thru our system and we groom them too, but they bolt after being denied for too long. Now we got nothing. Although a very nice guy, Dungy has his flaws. He got bounced from Tampa for resting his starters after they had the division wrapped up. The players lost their edge and didn't go far in the playoffs.
Dungy apparently learned nothing from this. The Colts had an opportunity to go down in the record books this year as the team with the greatest win streak of all time. But once the home field advantage was won Dungy [again] limited his starters playing time in the next games, both of which the Colts lost. [Had I been an attendee paying those outrageous ticket prices and being forced to watch a bunch of second-stringers, I would have been mad as hell.]
Have the Colts lost their edge? We'll see.

It's about time! Now, they need to start working on the players that disgraced this team with their cruise boat antics!

A team that would cut the great philosopher/intellectual/long snapper, Number 68, Mike Morris, isn't going anywhere, no matter who the coach is.
To: SoDak
This would not be the first time Mike Tice was unaware of the obvious. Amen to that. I too have met Tice personally and found him to be a good guy, but that doesn't win games. If a veteran coach (not someone who needs to learn on the job) can be found, it will be a net gain.
Tice's game and clock management skills have improved but are still substandard and it would be nice if the Vikings showed up ready to play in important games once in awhile.
